Come back to us when you have the couple of hundred grand OP. This post should be moved to AH, nothing to do with enterprise or business management, have we got an Eddie Hobbs Forum???

Personally, I'd be inclined to go for a 2-3 different businesses in diversified areas.

What is your area of experience / preference.....

If I had money to burn right now, and let's assume I wasn't investing it in my own business, I'd probably be looking at property (no rush though). There's going to be a lot of great bargains on the market.

I d set up a clothing lable / company for larger ladies

50 + mammy types - well cut well made designed classy tastefull garments.
Great niche not catered for - now someone reading this will take my idea and with their silver spoon money become rich whilst I remain a pauper but a foolish one for posting my idea :(

    1. Start an accountancy firm and specialise only receivorship and liquidation.

    2. Buy a bank, invest all my money in it and go broke, claim guarantee from government and start all over again.

    3. Buy an insurance company, maybe AIG

    4. Buy America

    5. Hide it in the matress

If you had a great idea for a business would you share it with a complete stranger on the internet?

Taking one or two industries out of the equation (eg construction), then nothing is different now when it comes to coming up with a good business idea except perhaps you might need to be a little bit more careful. Those people with the really good ideas are either acting on them or keeping them to themselves. I would be surprised to see someone discussing a really good idea in a public forum like this.

Just because we are in a recession the act of coming up with a good business idea shouldn't change in any way, certain mechanics around the progress from an idea to the actual might have changed. So, nothing personal, but the one or two genuine ideas I have floating around in my head are staying there for the moment.
