Kickboxing Competitions

    Hi,

I'm new to boards so forgive me if this is a stupid question.
I'm 32 and used to be big into boxing and kickboxing when I was late teens and early 20's.

Anyway, I have an itch to start up again but I really want to compete otherwise I'll just get bored.
Part of the reason I left was getting fed up pretending to be Korean/Chinese/Japanese etc and wearing white and black suits ..no offence its just not for me.
I really just want to spar and compete, I have no interest in becoming a Zen master or learning the secrets of the universe.

Are there any open comps in kickboxing(preferably regular) that I can just show up for and enter without being a member of an organisation or club?
As a bonus incentive for me:) are there any that offer cash prizes.....
I fully expect to get my ass handed to me in the first few comps but it should be fun.

Semi or full contact would be preferred to point.

    Thanks in advance

    Joel

Id say most of these have a light continuos section and can arange full contact bouts for registered kickboxers
    http://www.kickboxing.ie/

You can also try http://www.bestofthebest-ireland.com/ for light continuos.

They are all amature tournaments and usually no cash awards are given. Apart from there is the Irish open http://www.irishopenonline.com/ which attracts some of the worlds best semi and light contact kickboxers.

Actually just seen you want to show up without being in a club / organisation. Dont know about that, there are "open" comps but youd stiill have to be insured and all that which id say you can only do through a club?

Regarding age, loads of guys your age compete and if you train right and look after your body you will be fine.

pretty much as joepenguin said in the way of regular open comp's.

If your up to it now there's a semi & light open comp on the 12th October in Leixlip Amenities Centre.

The AIKI comps are well run with a decent standard of refs, medical teams on site, etc.

You can enter any tournament without being a member of a club as long as you realise your not covered.
Having semi or full contact as preferences is a bit off the track, semi is a world away from full and the training is very very different.
Any kickboxing clubs I know don't teach Zen or answer questions about the universe!
    Just go and train ;)
