Travel insurance covering airline liquidation

Does anyone know of any travel insurance that provides cover against airlines that go into liquidation?

I've checked out a number of policies and I haven't come across any that do so far...

The reason most likely is that airlines are bonded and you should be able to claim off the appropriate regulator of the airline.

I doubt that customers of XL or Zoom got their money back after being left stranded when either of those two airlines collapsed

    Hi,

I'm open to correction on this but as far as I know airlines are not bonded like travel agents and tour operators.

If you book a package through a bonded travel agent / tour operator and they go bust then you can claim on their bond.

This seems to have been the case with XL recently that if you booked a package with them or through a travel agent you were covered. But if you booked a flight only with them then you are not covered (you may be able to claim back on your credit card though) http://www.aviationreg.ie/_fileupload/Image/xl%20120908%201432.pdf

There is a site that will put in a claim for you without you having to do much work. It's a no-win no-fee type of site the kicker is though that they will charge 27% of you claim if you win. http://www.euclaim.ie/.

    Tip.
