TV3: Poor visual quality of own broadcasts?

Looking at Ireland AM or the Nightly News the picture broadcast seems to be somewhat soft and lacking in definition, compared with the crisper pictures of RTE or TG4. This applies to both the analogue and digital versions of the channel, and makes their broadcast pictures look cheap and nasty.

Why does TV3 want to emulate the look of a poor transfer from the US system on its own broadcasting? Surely proper lighting and cameras shouldn't cost the earth.

If thats the case (never watch TV3), its down to poor definition of the datastream I'd say.

Yeah, have noticed it myself, and I'd say mike is right, it's poor bitrate from TV3 HQ to RTE, who are responsible for terrestrial broadcast, and I believe satellite uplink too.
