1.33 (yes 1 +1/3) VVTi engine putting out 100BHP (compared to the 106 in the current 1.6) with a stop/start system similar to BMs ED in VRT Band B
    1.4 D4-D in VRT Band A
    1.4 D4-D AWD in VRT Band B

6 speed gearboxes and across the range and 16" rubber as standard:eek: Each option is expected to have a top speed of 175 km/h, which isn't bad for B segment cars in general though I might expect more from this new nifty 1.33l engine. Hopefully the 8v D4-D will move aside for this 1.6 D4-D we hear so little about.

7 Airbags standard across the range....perhaps it's actually cheaper to produce all cars with the 7 than have different lines for airbag assembly.

Being marketed as a B segment car, does anyone reckon this little gem could steal the Auris' thunder(thighs) and entice the grannies out of their Yaris'

All very impressive, but I wonder what will happen when Toyota Ireland gets its hands on it:rolleyes:

Specs wise it looks good but doesn't look the best, looks abit like a Suzuki Swift meets a Rav 4. 2331639499_76d8ec5895.jpg?v=1205462716

The current 1.6 in the Avensis is a not-too-shabby 133bhp

That's not bad for a 1.6, are they using anything out of the normal to get it?

Nope, it's a normally aspired unit, uses second generation variable valve timing called valvematic, similar to BMW's valvetronic technology.

Back on topic, I take it the Urban Cruiser is supposed to be a rival to the Nissan Quashqai?

Theres a good bit on it here

Don't think it could take on the cashcow really, its a good bit smaller by the looks of things. it'll be a good cheaper, though. That 1.4 d4d should be well under 20k. I still think it could have a limited market, though. like the cashcow, its not going to appeal to the men, or anyone who appreciates interior quality for that matter. That interior is every it as sh*t as an auris's IMO. Have a sconse here

I doubt it'll be under 20k. a diesel Yaris is 18,500 and a diesel Auris is over 23k. I'd imagine this will be aimed at the Auris price bracket.

Dimensions wise, it's the same width as a Prius.

In that case, if the UC is around 23k in diesel form, i still think the cashcow has the upper hand.

I"m sure there'll be no problems selling any that come the dealers' way.

    :

The new Avensis has 7 as well, instead of having 2 seperate curtain airbags at each side, they now have one big one on each side.

I didn't get it out for a drive, but I was sitting in it last thursday. I have an auris and in comparison the interior room in the Urban Cruiser is tiny. It seems to have taken its space measurements from the Yaris. Wouldn't like it at all.

Ha! It'll probably be aroudn 20k+ when it gets over here, I can think of alot more to spend 20k+ on.

Actually, I'm assuming it's over here already, as I think I saw it in O'Mara's. How much is it?

A few similarities, but a lot of differences too. Thoughts?

I can see the differences alright, but I can see more similarties to be honest. The lines and a few bits are different, but the general car looks the very same I think. Do you?

I can agree on that- a beefier big bro of sorts. The similarities are only skin deep though- the interior on the Soul is very interactive and customizable, and the engine options are far superior.
