Anyone else hear he's got the gig?

Would be great if it's true, not saying he'll bring the All Ireland, but he should fix things around a good bit, hopefully stop the decline of Limerick hurling and bring a bit of respect back to the hurlers.

UpTheDeise has been saying that he has been confirmed, but no link posted yet. From what RTE are saying, he was interviewed for the job last night and is now the clear favourite.

All I can say is good luck to him if it is indeed true. If he's half as successful with Limerick as he was with us, it'll be a job well done.

When's the draw for next years Munster Championship does anyone know? Limerick vs Waterford anyone? :D

Bennis is a great guy to get them going, but he isn't technical enough to bring them to the next level.

Whoever gets it will need to be successful relatively quickly, Bennis still has a lot of deserved goodwill.

JUSTIN McCarthy, the man so sensationally ousted by his own Waterford players this summer, will be unveiled as the new Limerick senior hurling manager next Tuesday.
A handful of hopefuls had been interviewed for the Limerick job, including outgoing boss Richie Bennis and former county star Pat Herbert, while former Clare manager Tony Considine suddenly withdrew from the race on Thursday evening citing his business commitments.
It is believed that McCarthy was only interviewed on Thursday night after returning from holidaying abroad.
But it emerged yesterday that he is the man Limerick want, and he could be presented to the county board as early as next Tuesday night.
The board's next monthly meeting is not for another fortnight but county delegates are already tabled to meet next week to discuss a blueprint for the county's hurling future called 'The Treaty'.
It is expected that McCarthy will be unveiled at this meeting with his backroom team possibly also in place by then.
    Expertise
It is a remarkably quick turnaround for the Corkman whose expertise led Waterford to three Munster titles and a national league title in seven years -- before it all went badly sour last June.
The Waterford players told county officials they could no longer work with him and McCarthy stood down, admitting he no longer had the players' full support.
He was replaced by former Clare star Davy Fitzgerald, who within a couple of months got the Deise into an All-Ireland final, the one thing McCarthy had failed to achieve with the county despite reaching several semi-finals.
Now McCarthy is set to lead Limerick who, like his last charges, have also been heavily defeated by Kilkenny in a recent (2007) All-Ireland senior final.
Next Tuesday night could also prove a big one in Galway as there is a meeting of the local County Hurling Board where Ger Loughnane is expected to be proposed for a third year in charge of the county seniors.
It is already known that two alternative management teams are interested in the job so Loughnane's re-appointment is far from certain.

Excellent news if it comes to pass. Justin McCarthy is a top manager and Limerick should defintely grab him. Limerick v Waterford would definitely be one to watch next season. I'm sure he'd love to get one over on the Waterford players who told county officials they could no longer work with him. :pac:

Officially confirmed for an initial 2-year perioid

    http://www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/championship/2008/1007/mccarthyj.html?gaa

Justin McCarthy has been appointed as the new Limerick hurling manager.
McCarthy - who stepped down as Waterford boss during the recent Championship - was tonight appointed for an initial two-year stint.
He endured a tough year with the Déise as he was under intense pressure before his resignation.

Now he is back in hurling and looking to revive the fortune of Limerick hurling after a poor Championship.
Ciaran Carey, Brian Ryan, Tom Ryan and Pat Fleury had earlier withdrawn from contention for the job so Limerick County board were left with a six man shortlist and they chose the former Waterford manager.

This is great news for Limerick and the Munster championship.

Limerick needs someone from outside to take control. Justin has no loyalties in Limerick and the players will know this and will have to up their game if they want in.

I think the Cork Waterford rivalary of the past number of years is about to be replaced by a Tipp Limerick rivalary. This already started with the 3 games last year.
