Does your laptop have a special mute key?

Is the volume very low that you can't hear it?

Is there a volume icon in your tray? Normally it looks like a picture of a speaker. If there is, is there a red circle with a diagonal line in it?

Are you wearing ear plugs or other auditory protection?

Try the mute key. Some laptops it is a mechanical switch as well as a setting on the lower toolbar or in the control panel.

    Start-Settings-Control panel-Sound & Audio devices-Mute-Volume control.

Also if you were using an external sound card the laptop can sometimes switch from default settings You will need to go into Audio Devices and switch it back.

Sometimes the sound card driver files can get damaged/deleted by accident /virus. You may have to install them from the back up systems disk that came with your laptop. If this is missing you will have to download them from the manufacturers site.
