try a software download and see wat happens

hold the back up button on the box pull the power cable while holding the back up button ,after 10 seconds plug the power cable back in and continue to hold the back up button till all the lights come on and a message comes up on screen saying something like overair software download this may take up to 10 min
and let go of the button then

im on my forth sky+ box, only got sky installed in the past 3 months, they are prone to failure, most of which is hard drive based

it just turned itself off again...a pain..i`ll give sky a shout in the morning

depends how busy the installers are, u mite get a slot for next friday id guess though. when u ring them 2m, they are gonna put you thru the usual procedure of resetting the box, by plugging it out, plug back in and then holding the left and right select button on the box itself.

just say you have done it all and you want a new box. when the installer comes around make sure he replaces it with a new box, as they tend to give you refurbs. i got one refurb that failed 1 day after i got it, the thing was cracked on the front aswell. so when i got yet another replacement i made sure the installer opened a new sealed white box

thanks for all the help guys

    byte

Generally, Sky+ boxes aren't too bad. Main thing I see fail is the harddrives.

My own failed as well, so I took out the crap Maxtor drive and replaced with a bigger Samsung drive. I feel that disabling Instant Rewind can extend the longevity of the HDD also, as it'll not be constantly recording.

Thats a good bit of advice byte. Think I will disable the instant rewind also.
