After much soul-searching (it's not you, it's me), for personal reasons, Techspansion is closing its virtual doors.

Pity about that, it was a very handy app if you had to transcode stuff... I wonder if the RIAA/MPAA/IMRO-types had anything to do with it?

Handbrake has just matched most of its features with its latest release anyway...

Too bad - always liked VisualHub for transcoding stuff. Didn't know Handbrake does iPod conversions now - from other video types I assume? I remember it back when it was DVDs only. Guess I'll have to check it out again...

Yep, the latest Handbrake - you may have to pick up a nightly build - will now transcode from almost any format. You'll now need VLC installed if you want to get by DVD encryption though.

It's lacking VisualHub features like stitching together videos and so on, but it should do a pretty good job overall.

That's bad news. I use this app all the time for my Apple TV. I hope they release the code.

Could you use a combination of the new handbrake and iMovie to do the same job? iMovie for stitching videos together?

The new HandBrake is Leopard only though.

    *is sad about Visual Hub*

w00t indeed, although in the meantime I've found a command line tool called QTCoffee that does the stitching very quickly. And you're back too I see :D
