Car Driving time or Bus 17 from Crumlin to UCD in rush-hour?

Hi, a friend of mine is thinking of moving to Crumlin/Walkinstown (close to the Submarine Pub) and she is starting a job in UCD. I know there is the Bus 17, that goes directly, but I think that bus is not great? Otherwise I said she could drive, the distance is not that far. Has anyone got experience with that route? How long would it take to drive during rush-hour?
    Many thanks!

Less than 7km. Around 30 minutes on a bicycle, max. Safe enough route too.

Car in rush hour 45mins -1hour
Terenure, rathfarnham and dundrum, bumper to bumper the whole way

17 Bus in rush hour 1hr-1.5hrs
Thats once youre actually on the bus which never arrives at the time its suppose to

Sometimes the most direct route isn't the best especially at rush hour. Your friend should learn all the back routes to her house and side roads. It's easy to skip dundrum etc by doing this.

I think your latter comment is rather unfair. The 17 is very reliable in the morning peak as most buses are making either their first journey of the day or have made a westbound journey before the traffic appears. I say this as I see several morning departures every day passing through Terenure at or about 20 minutes after leaving the terminus, which is exactly where they should be!

The 17 would take about 10 to get to the Submarine bar, and then from there to UCD would take about 40 minutes from there for departures from Rialto between 0700 and 0730, with the journey time rising possibly up to 60 minutes for journeys between after that until 0900 due to schools traffic.

The total trip is 1hr 20 mins peak time, so allow 10mins from Rialto to the Sub then upto 10mins UCD to Blackrock so that gives you a trip time of over 45mins+.
I drove the route last week and everything went well, all trips covered. Mount merrion ave is finished now so no delays there anymore.
