    Hi
I am interested in doing a Degree in Psychology through Open University but am not sure if I am eligible as I have read many sights stating you already need some sort of foundation course.
I have a Diploma in PR already where Sociology was part of it. Has anyone started this course or any similar one.
I would really appreciate any advice before I register and pay any fees
    Thanks

Generally, people studying with the OU do a "Level 1" or foundation course (equivelant to some 1st year content in a conventional university). They count towards your degree, in the same way that others

Many doing Psychology opt for this: http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/bin/p12.dll?C01DD100. That's is basically what a foundation course is. Some degrees might require it to be completed, some may not. The OU can tell you for certain.

Apart from anything else, they're designed to give you not only academic grounding in the subject but an introduction to the "style" of the OU also, which can take a little getting used to.

The OU have an office in Ireland (http://www3.open.ac.uk/near-you/ireland//p4.asp). They're friendly and will answer pretty much any question you can thinkl of.

I've just started "Discovering Psychology" through OU. I've found the OU very impressive so far. I hope to have the degree within 3/4 years.

I think you might be too late to take the course I'm on now - To do the Hons Psychology degree in as short a time as possible you've to start with Discovering Psychology, but it's at level 2. But, no prior knowledge is required.

If you contact them now they might be able to fit you in, but the course proper starts today. It probably begins again in a six months or so.

My tutorial centre is only a few miles away which is an added bonus as I thought I'd have to go to Dublin.

    Good luck

    Thanks guys
I won't be able to start until next one comes around as I have to apply for credits. The OU said based on my Diploma if I apply for credits I could jump straight to level 2 and the credit check can take upto 10 weeks

    Hi,
You could still start the level 2 course (if allowed) as you can claim the credits at any time. The OU keeps all their quals separate, and is different from most traditional unis in that sense.
