Did anybody see this last night? It follows planners in England while they are dealing with unauthorised developments.

One of the cases covered was a new developer who got permission to renovate an old dwelling and construct an extension to the side and rear. He duly demolished the whole house to build it from scratch. His excuse was that his architect who also happened to be his brother in law, claimed that the word "renovate" covered it all. :D The planners were not amused.

Hmmm, renovate/demolish, demolish/renovate. Hard to distinguish really. :D

Some parts are quite interesting. There is a little bit of wrist slapping. Sounds terrible but I want to see someone's house or extension demolished! I've heard of lots of (horror) stories where the house was demolished because it was built different to application drawings.

I'd also though UK Planning law was very strict and by the book. But then there was a Convent demolish in Ireland, as the Coucil prepared to make it a Protected Structure. The Developer was fined €1000!

Yes but they also got the developer back when he applied for a large towncenter scheme on the adjacent car park lands, they put a little 1.2 million levy for a new access road and bridge, developers appealed but missed the appeal date so reapplied for a smaller development so as not to attract the levy and were refused.

Careful here . There are always human stories behind regulations . Did anyone see that news item , maybe 7-10 years back - somewhere in rural England , Devon , I think .

A planning officer tuned up , with bulldozers behind to enforce a demolition order for an unauthorised house - and was shot dead - all on camera . Awful

And did we not all think of doing something similar at one time or another - well maybe not as extreme but a kick in the nuts perhaps :D
