    Hey,
I would appreciate it if anyone out there has advice on a work laptop (fujitsu siemens Amilo Pro - using XP) that takes incredibly long to process the smallest of requests???
It is quite old and has a huge amount of info stored.
Do I need extra memory or more processing power or a new laptop?
On an unrelated matter - does anyone know how to disable the 'write protection' on a PNY 4GB memory card?

    All help is appreciated.

    Cheers.

How much RAM does it have installed, have you tried running virus/spyware scanners like avg free and spybot search and destroy~?

It probably has a virus. or else is overloaded with stuff. Suggest you grab what ever is good on it and give a format and fresh install of Windows and a good antivirus and start again.

It's hard to offer advice on that post. If a computer is taking forever to do anything, then there could be one of a number of problems:
    Virus/Malware infection?
    Failing Hardware?
    Over-Heating?
    Problems with your OS?
Problems with some other software on it?
    etc...

If it is quite old with a huge amount of info, then get a backup. Buy yourself an External Harddrive & get a copy of your data. Once you do this, you can begin uninstalling unwanted apps, checking for problems, running diagostic tests, etc. Personally, I re-install WinXP every 18-24months. Windows has a tendency to collect all sorts of rubbish over a couple of years, til it grinds to a halt. A fresh install will probably give your laptop a new lease of life. Got your Recovery CDs?

I'd tend to agree, A fresh reinstall would probably sort all the problems you're having, unless it's down to hardware, but that's unlikely.
