This Royale was in the Sinsheim in Germany.

One of the most magnificent cars ever designed ! ! Six were built, all with their own unique styles. Only managed to photograph 5 of them so far.

The OP had said one car per poster, it was a toss up with the Delahaye and the Type 41.

I have only ever seen one Type 41 in the flesh, it is the most well proportioned car I have ever seen.

    Epic!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 67 ✭✭Pagoda113

Which one have you seen Kevin ?

The white cabriolet is in the Henry Ford museum outside Detroit. There are two in the French national motor museum at Mulhouse. There is one in the Sinsheim museum in Germany and I think Volkswagen now own two of them. I believe the sixth is in a private collection..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 813 ✭✭✭Kevin_Herron

I believe the one you have posted is one that I have seen.
It was in Essen last year.

I was in the Henry Ford Museum in '97 or '98.
I just flicked through some photos and yes the white cabriolet is among them!

    So I've seen 2 Royales!

Ha we all have similar tastes. I was looking for something by Figoni & Felaschi when I started this thread, but they are all so beautiful I couldn't choose so I went with the Alfa Romeo, which shares some lines I think !

Also love the Gullwing, but prefer the roadsters looks but that would have been too predictable from me ! ;)

I knew someone would post a Dino of some sort, just love those curves. I have to sa that I never expected a '58 Plymouth to be described as beautiful.........."evil" yes but not beautiful, but I kinda see it too !

I also saw that Buggatti at Essen, I was amazed at its shear size, you cant tell from photos that its front wing is about waiste high, though the guy in the background sort of scales it. most photos of these cars show nothing to give you any kind of scale !

    Keep them coming !

    The famous Schlumpf collection.

You would have been there in the first year it opened.
You would have seen it the way the Schlumpf brothers wanted it.
    It has been redecorated since.

    Brilliant story surrounding it.

    CITROEN_DS_21_Decapotable_10.jpg

Actually I think the saloon is more beautiful than the decapotable.

However my nomination for most beautiful (as opposed to beautiful/innovative/technically advanced/modern) would have to go to the BMW 507

Very hard to choose, the early datsun skylines are Beautiful... mainly the fastback 1970 model...

early corrollas are brilliant too ( even the AE85/86 is a nice car )

the early saab 900/9000 are also greta looking cars ( in differant ways to everything else... Very practial young classics )

though the E30 m3 EvoII is king of all. :)

I had one of these. It was exactly the same colour, wheels, spoiler everything as this one. Worst car I ever owned and the best at the same time. I looked terrible but the Alfa flat 4 with twin delortos sounded fantastic and gave lots of spanners in MK1 GTI's a good spanking:)

In Ireland? I have never actually seen one of these in the flesh (or it's close cousin, the Nissan Cherry Europe).

No , I lived in Austria at the time. Bought it for around 350 old pounds at the time as a non runner. Discovered the points were knackered and the firing order was set up wrong. It was some pile of s##t but it went like stink. Drank like stink too. You could get it down to around 11-12 mpg.

    The car I have chosen is a 1935-1939 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900
Possibly the worlds first supercar. Apparently it was a major influence both in its design and engineering for a certain Enzo...who work at the Alfa factory and raced them need I say more. Look at it! With a straight eight, twin superchargers and this all before WWII.

:) Actually spidersonmars, this is the car that the OP posted in his first post, but with a different body type..., absolutely stunning car all the same (they look better up close!!!)

But the one and only car that I haven't seen popping up here, that I would have thought to at least make it onto the 1st page of this topic, one of my own all time favorites: Bertone's masterpiece, the Miura... with the SV/J as the ultimate incarnation...

Paul I cant say I'd be gone on the variant of Miura that you have posted.
    What derivitive is it?

The lights, colour evrything looks wrong or something?

..........yeah I prefer the typical Muira, with the eye lashes !! ;)

As Paul mentioned the car at the start of the topic is the Coupe version which I chose over the open top car because of its dramatic roofline, something which was far less common back then than an open car.

Its great to see all these suggestions !

All Miura's are breathtaking from any angle, wether it's the eyebrow versions or fixed headlamp ones, wether they are lime green, bright yellow or flaming red! This version is just my personal preference because I prefer the more menacing stance of the SV and SV/J.

SVJ's are commonly known as the "Jota" and were developed on the basis of a one off special, built by the then development driver for lamborghini, Bob Wallace. This car proved so powerful, that weatlthy customers wanted one too. So in the end, six were built. Have a read through the list of all the SVJ's and choose your own personal favorite...
    http://www.lamborghiniregistry.com/Miura/MiuraJota/SVJRegistry.html
This makes interesting reading if you have some time on your hands, as it details very accurately who owned and bought sold them...

or if the SVJ doesn't do it for you can check out another personal favorite Miura... http://www.lamborghiniregistry.com/Miura/index.html

The Miura's are ultra low, but unlike the Ford GT40 would actually hold up a lot better in reality. Personally I feel a Ford GT40 looks a lot smaller and tinier when you see them in the flesh. When they are pictured in photo sessions, the car always seems to look bigger than it really is... I was actually slightly disappointed when I finally got a chance to try one (an original, not the new ones)...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭MercMad

I couldn't agree more about the GT40, I love them, but always though they were massive, big wide things !

Thanks for the Lambo links Paul, I'll take a read through it all later !
