I have imovie and I was wondering if the easiest way to add subtitles to a dvd (which I wanna use for teaching) is to use imovie? but it is a dvd so i guess i'd have to get the video and audio into a file suitable for manipulation in imovie, which I dunno how to do either. Any thoughts?

    Thanks lads

Handbrake will rip the DVD, assuming it's not encrypted i.e. shop bought, to any format you like. If it's a commercial dvd and you have permission to do so you could use Mactheripper to rip the dvd then Handbrake to transcode it. For iMovie you could use .mp4 format.

iMovie can separate the audio track from the stream and put it into a separate audio track for editing.

The subtitles you can enter again using iMovies titling panel. Note here that my only experience of this kind of editing is with iMovie 06 which imo is far better than iMovie 08.

Hope this is of some help. For more specific info if you tell us exactly what you want to achieve we can help further.
