    Hi TCD boarders,

Are bikes safe in TCD these days?

Am returning to college to do grad diploma in statistics in the evening starting next week. Don't fancy driving / parking etc around Trinity so need to know ... can good quality 600e + bikes be locked safely in Trinity between 6 and 8 in the evening.

If so where? ... in the old days, this was ill-advised. Am hoping that things have changed.

    Thanks for any feedback.

    Stan

I've survived to 4th year and only lost a wheel to thieves. That was because I was foolish and left the bike overnight two nights in a row and didn't lock the back wheel. Other than that no problems.

Take anything removable off and lock both wheels with a good lock. Also, lock it beside a less well secured bike-takes the attention from yours onto theirs. I leave mine outside the museum building-always people passing by. Or outside the physics building, lots of people about.

As opposed to Cunnin4's post, I had 3 friends have four bicycles get stolen between em in the space of two weeks last year - there was a bit of a spree of bike thefts in college. Don't bring a bike that looks too new or too decent in - after the second bike got stolen, my friend decided to muck the ****e out of his, take at it with a load of paint etc. - hasnt had a problem since.
