WiFi router (Fritz!Box) + VoIP

    Hey

Basically I was wondering if there are any Fritz!Box fon Wlan Guru's here to help with my proposed setup below:

I have IBB and want to put a voip phone in the kitchen. Ive a WRT54G thats doing wireless for the house. Trouble is we dont want to start drilling holes etc..

So option (a) is to chuck a WiFi router there (in bridge mode) and use the voip connections on it to hook the existing phone into VoIP. I like the look of the Fritz!Box as its able to handle multiple sip accounts (correct me if Im wrong) which is useful now since Betamax isnt working with MySipSwitch.

I was also looking at the WRP400 but Im not sure it can handle multiple SIP accounts (??)

Another option (b) is the Siemens C450 IP from blueface, however, Im pretty sure it cant handle multiple SIP accounts, which is a bit of a downer.

Any feedback about Fritz!Box is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

How many SIP accounts will you need the VoIP device to be able to handle? It seems a bit over the top (in terms of cost and effort) to get a Fritz!Box and start bridging wireless etc..

All you might need is a DECT cordless phone and something like a Grandstream HandyTone 386 ATA (http://www.grandstream.com/ht386.html). If your existing phone is cordless then you've little left to do and you'd probably end up with a cheaper, simpler and more reliable setup.

The Fritz!Box can handle up to 10 SIP accounts and they don't have to be from the same SIP service provider.

The Fritz!Box can get its internet connection in two ways - either through its own DSL modem or else from an existing connection that is connected to LAN port 1. There is no setting to configure it in bridge mode. It can be configured for acting as either a WDS base station or repeater on the WLAN settings. A way might be to bridge LAN1 of the Fritz!Box to your existing router using the ethernet over mains products

    Any use to you ?

What part of Dublin are you in? I'm in Sutton and can show you a 7140.

The end of this month the new 7270 will hopefully be available - this can even act as a base station for up to 6 DECT phones and has an answering machine as well. Probably going to be about €250 though

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.

Yep it does seem like overkill but the lack of a port in the kitchen means Ive to do things wireless.

MickyJoe, thanks for the info, has cleared up my choices. I never thought of the 'over the mains' route. The 7270 looks like a tasty bit of kit but the fact I dont have DSL makes it a bit harder to fork out that much money.

I think I found a compromise solution: the Siemens C470 IP can handle 6 SIP accounts + Im thinking of hooking it up to a linksys wireless ethernet bridge. A few deadlines to get over in work first.

    Cheers
