Some nice looking Wii games were shown

    A new Trace memory game
    Tenchu is looking very nice
A new game from Vanillaware very much in the vain of the excellent Odin Sphere
    Klonoa

And the biggy for me Sin and Punishment 2! Can't wait for that, just hope treasure are behind it.

No real killer apps but some good games none the less.

    Full list of games here:

    Cosmic walker looks kindof interesting.

Forgot to mention Fragile which is looking fantastic.

Glad to see Punch-out keeping the racial stereotypes. Is that a load of croissants coming out of oneof the combatants? :)

    Treasure are definitely behind S&P 2 :)

A sequel to Another Code, that sounds interesting. And another Harvest Moon title out soon. In America, of course. Europe has not even got a confirmed date for Tree of Tranquility...

I have a degree in Localisation Technology, and it boils my blood that they take such a long time to get these games out here! It isn't THAT difficult, you know!

Its about the size of different markets and the costs involved bringing games to those other markets. Whilst Europe gets most games eventually the scope, size and backing of releases over here is miniscule compared to that in the US.

Yes, I realise that return on investment is ultimately higher in America. Like I said, I have a degree in the subject. What baffles me, though, is that Rising Star felt it was necessary to invest time and money in localising Magical Melody which was released here at the start of this year - and was fairly old even then. Why not use that time and money to localise the (fairly) new Tree of Tranquility instead? I don't think too many people would have complained about missing MM given the fact that it's positively ancient in terms of graphic etc. in comparison to ToT. Looking at Rising Stars's website and seeing how they're still advertising MM, you'd swear it was the most neoteric.

Rising Star are a very small budget game outfit. I'm guessing that they bought the rights to magical melody when it was new but it took them quite a while to localise it given their small resources and small development team. They probably had to wait until the US release then buy the rights which would take time and then perform their own PAL 50 Hz conversion.

TBH I've nothing bad to say about small european budget companies like Rising Star, Essential Games and 505 gamestreet since they are bringing a lot of classic obscure games to europe that wouldn't have seen the light of day without them. We probably wouldn't have

Mario and Luigi Partners in Time is one of my favourite DS games of all time, Retro... you owe it to yourself to give it a go. M&L3 looks like more of the same (which is absolutely fine by me!)

I loved superstar saga and have partners in time but haven't gotten around to playing it. My handheld gaming has taken a nose dive since I got my car. I think I'll give M&L a go once I finally get through Jeanne D'Arc.

Are there any new wii games that are going to use the new better motion sensor attachment thingy? It would be interesting to see what they do with that.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,406 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

That Wii sports 2 thing isn't out until 2009 so we will have to wait until then really.

Anyone else looking forward to fragile? I think it looks excellent. Can't wait for it just hope it gets localised.

the problem with the motion+ device is that it was kept as a complete secret(outside of nintendo) until it was announced at e3, that along with the fact it isnt coming out until early 09, means that most developers wont have time to work it into their games that are to be released in 2009(games take awhile to make, and its not like wii games can be patched like ps3/xbox360 games can).

    Actually no

Lucasarts have confirmed they were consulted about the motion+ device before E3, and that the rumour they were annoyed about not being consulted was false.

    never gonna happen......

tatsunoko is a company in japan who owns all those(non capcom) characters in the game.
the problem is, outside japan, many of those characters are copyrighted to several different companies aka licensing hell.

its a bit like why jump super/ultimate stars the ds game is never gonna be licensed outside japan
