Are you a team player?

So we've all been playing for a little while now, and I was wondering what type of players you all are.

There's plenty of scope in this game to form up in teams and to try and use your abilities together for the greater good, but as I've been playing I've noticed a lot of people just complaining that others aren't doing their job. I've had a few healers compain to me (I'm a tank) about running back from the front lines. My argument that as healers they should actually be healing me instead of making me have to either back off and recuperate or die falls on deaf ears as they continue to attack the enemy with their meager offensive skills.

But every now and again we get it right. Last night I was in a scenario with a healer following me around. I'd lay the smack down and he'd keep me alive, from a distance. If he was spotted, I'd leg it over and protect him. It worked wonders and made me feel competent.

But there's another aspect to playing as a team that I think most people ignore. When grouped in a scenario or PQ and it pops up on the screen to role for loot, I'lll check to see if I need it. If I don't, I'll pass. I saw on the chat window that everyone else picks "Need", which made me feel a little sad inside.

And when I'm playing as part of the guild (which sadly hasn't been nearly enough as I just don't want to wait an hour to play a game I'm paying for), if I get something good that I can't use, I'll check the guild window for someone who can use it and mail it to them.

So, to get to the point and end this painfully dull post, which things do you do/not do? (and try and be honest, we won't judge you!)

I think I am the same as you. When I am playing my Shaman, I do heal everyone I can paying special attention to those who help me when I'm under attack. When Gear pop's up I only need it if I can use it (but I am considering just needing on everything now as that's what everyone else does :( - This needs to be fixed Mythic!). If I get good gear that's not for my class its going to a guildie (thanks Nibnub :)) or being salvaged.

When I play on my Magus I try to be a good team mate but the class is useless and does No DPS until the later levels so I'm just dead weight at the moment.

I play a Zealot and from what i've seen and heard i'm in the minority that realise this class is primarily a healer and always will be. Zealot is first and foremost a "true healer". Our DPS is laughable so in retrospect I stack Willpower and always try group when I can.

I'm only Rank 16 atm but i've topped healing in every scenario i've done so far, most by a fair margain while doing mediocre damage when I can afford too with DoTs and small insta nukes.

A Zealot is a very versatile healer in that you can heal on the move and do it well, so in a group situation i'll stay out of line of sight when possible while keeping tanks up. If I get spotted or jumped its a simple act of shielding / HoT'ing myself while kiteing and keepin an eye on the tanks and melee DPS. A good healer can literally change the outcome of any scenario so it's frustrating when you see Shamans and Zealots running around trying to DPS with their group dying around them.

I love when i'm grouped with a good tank that knows what he's doing in scenarios, a good tank + zealot are literally unstoppable if they know what they're doing but there's nothing more frustrating then spending half a scenario keeping up a tank on the front line when you get jumped and he doesen't bat an eyelid but I sappose this is to be expected until people learn the game mechanics better.

But I have to say i'm loving my class right now, being in such demand and having the ability to change the outcome of a scanerio is a great feeling. Can't wait to see what end game is like when guild RvR becomes indept and I get to heal in a well formed unit.

In terms of loot and such well that's the very basics of all MMO's and knowing that the game doesen't revolve around you. Anyone who's played MMO's for a prolonged period know what's the right thing to do. Meh :pac:

My rank 16 shaman is outhealing zealots of lvl 19 in scenarios consistantly so i guess im doing my job :)
I wont go as far as to say i top the healing charts all the time but a lot of times yes i do.
I simply dont dps,my main job is healer but i will unload bunch of waagh when i have it built up to full power but only on weak targets or those about half health.
Having played a zealot to 19 i honestly feel the shaman is the slightly better better healer especially in large groups, but thats just my opinion.
Its certainy more fun than zealot but the zealot sure does look cool :)
    Both are excellent healers.

Like most i need only if i need for current character, otherwise i greed.
If a guildie is in the group that i know wants the item ill pass.

I'm finding playing a Shaman very frustrating atm. Healing my ass off in Scenarios but always get tards ranting that noone is doing any healing.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,723 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Aye Jim i get that too but do also on my zealot.
Best bet is to ignore them and try go scenarios with guild mates.

Its the same on order when i tried archmage and rune priest.

I'm loving my Shaman. Great healing, and has some nice DPS abilities for when my Waagh gets high enough. Always focused on healing though, and only dps when we are all at high health levels. Shamans just dps'ing is just stupid. They cant do good enough dps compared to other classes. Your a healer first.

As for the idiots who complain that you are not healing enough, they are the ones charging into 5+ order and expect you to keep them alive, all while the other order guys have flanked you and are hitting you. So i dont heal them.

Also, Guild runs ftw! Won about 15 runs yesterday. Kicked some serious ass.

Playing as my Zealot, I tend to focus on healing as much as possible, maybe laying a DoT on someone if I have a chance. If everybody is at full health I'll go on the offensive and switch back to healing if needs be. Works well if you're with a good group who know what they're doing
I pretty much stick to dishing out as much DPS as possible with my Sorceress, and try to keep people alive if I see them getting picked on. (the lowbies are always the first to get targeted in RVR, when it should really be healers:p) Grip of fear can be a very handy abilty if you need to help get someone away from a melee DPS class...

As for looting, I greed everything... It's just my instant reaction to the annoying popup. Don't think I've needed once yet. I'm usually too busy actually playing the game to stop and look at the item stats and decide if I really need it.
A friend of mine got loads of abuse for greeding a green item in his first SC... His roll didn't even win, and someone else needed it. There are some serious ****wits playing this game...

I'm a tank, I do little to no dps but I take a hell of a pounding.

I run past the other team hitting anything and everything with AOE, mainly healers. My one aim to make everybody try to kill me which I'm great at. My 3 friends focus fire down the enemy team one at a time while I'm doing this.

I never get heals, I never expect heals. I prefer the healers to keep the dps alive from the usual tanks that pound on them. Besides it takes 6 people around 15 seconds to kill me, sometimes much longer if I get a lucky streak of buffs/morale pops.

I have taken to running ahead of the pack using "Hold the Line". I am not sure what it does, but everytime I do it the order guys get whooped that are behind me.
I am a defense class, so I like to defend.
I usually put "Guard" on the healer as well. Even if the little fecker is trying to dps.

This is so massively important yet in 20 levels of which the vast majority was in scenarios and I think one Black Orc ever put guard on my shaman...

I pretty much ignore whines of healing in scenarios cause in general it's the people who charge into the middle of the Order zerg and start pounding on some Ironbreaker or something while the 10 bright wizards instagib them and wonder what happened and why the magical heals didn't save him.

On a kind of off-topicy note, one thing I'm really liking is that scenarios aren't cross-realmed or anything. I'd forgotten how much fun it was playing against familiar faces all the time. It's nice having rivals you can pick out as being the good players you target first out of the zerg ^_^

I cant wait until we get addons as well.

Healers should really have a giant "%player% has you on Guard" flash across the screen.

My WE total rapes single targets in about 10sec, best class for getting flag orb back.

Finding that not a whole lot of people understand the use of tactics in the scenarios yet things like:

Rushing their zerg and using a mass snare as a magus - sure I die quickly but our flag carrier gets a 6 sec head start on the people trying to kill him/her

Luring groups of players into out of the way spots - if I have 4 players chasing me to the arse end of nowhere and that I'm lower level then all of them then yay!

Feints and misdirections - seizing goals or attacking goals purely with the aim removing personnel from more important parts of the battlefield.

If you have a pack of players chasing you run away from your flag carrier - you might be saved by running to the flag and it's escorts but ultimately you're jeopardising your teams chance to win by doing so.

These are the most obvious ones that occur to me when I'm playing scenarios atm.
