Is there much to be gained from Samsung's service menu?

I bought a 40" Sammy LCD about three months ago, I don't have the model # to hand but I think it was pre-series 4/5/6, got for a good price from Power City. Aside from adjusting brightness, colour and contrast to my liking it's pretty much as it left the factory. Reading here and on other fora I see lot's of discussions on optimum setups, involving making adjustments in the service menu (which I've yet to be in).

My question is, is it really worthwhile? I've read that changing anything in the service menu could invalidate your warranty  or is that just scare mongering?

    TV use would be roughly:
70% SDTV over a Digibox (Scart)
    20% DVD/Bluray on PS3 (HDMI)
    10% Gaming on PS3 (HDMI)

    Thanks in advance!

AVFourms has alolt of info on it, the main thing to watch is if you make a mess of the service menu settings you cannt reset them and its possible to ruin the TV I belive. Your best bet is to find the recomended settings for your model and stick them in. There are colour calibration settings in the service menu but you should be able to calibrate the colour without them.
