Depends what type of target shooting you're going to do.
    Browning Buckmark
Good, accurate (usually) and reasonably priced
    Beretta 87 Target
Not as good as the Browning, but still OK
    Walter P22
    Horrible!
    S&W 22A
Supposed to be good, but have not seen enough of them to comment.

There's the Hammerli X-Esse, also good, accurate and reliable.

I have a 22A, they're quite popular up at Hilltop. They're very accurate, with a great trigger, and are fairly inexpensive. You can get barrels from 4 to 7 inches, and can swap them very quickly. On the down-side they come with a magazine safety and don't take well to dry firing (the firing pin tends to strike the top of the chamber).

The Buckmark and the Hammerli are also very good.

There's the RFD in Gorey, forget his name, but he usually has something secondhand.

Dealers don't have new pistols for sale here because they're only permitted to import for a customer. Can't hold stock of new pistols.

The only one I've ever dealt with was Brian Duffy in Galway. Excellent service. Be careful though he's a huge Sig fan :D:D:D:D

    MY VIEW ON THIS IS
The hammerli xesse is the way to go
there are many other better firearms for each and every discipline
the s&w 22a very good firearm but cant use it in many classes because of the 7" barrel
    :D

Ditto; Duffy is a gent and is not greedy - I have priced several pieces of equipment at three different dealers around the country on different occasions and he is consistently the most reasonable price.....couldn't recommend him high enough.
