Hi guys, was not sure where to really post this hopefully its ok here.. If someone is making "bodily harm threats" against me, through email (I know the person).. What are my options so i can feel save again, which is impossible now.....

If i go to Garda station will they hear me out?! Will there be someone i can speak to?...Sorry, have never dealt with the Irish Garda so im not too sure how helpful they might be in such instances..Thanks

Ye they should hear you out, not sure how much they can do though (they are unlikely to go to the bother of proving that the person sending the mails uses that email address - unless the person is threatening to kill you)

How bad are the threats, do you believe you will be harmed?

The Garda would not have to search/proof who the emails are from because it is clear who its from... the person is part of a social network site that im also a member of, thats the way he was able to find me and contact me, so he is not in any way trying to stay anonymous..It is evident who it is.

Im not a wuss, but the threats to me are alarming, and you never know if you wil be harmed, but i do feel unsafe that "something might happen to me"

If it was me personally I would just avoid whoever is threatening you unless it becomes very serious. Going to the Guards with a threat like that isn't exactly going to allow them to take the guy off the street so you may be just causing more hassle for yourself.
Just watch yourself and hopefully it will blow over soon. Sorry can't be more help, that'd just be my approach.
Edit - If you think theres a possibility of being stabbed or your convinced you'll take a hiding as soon as ye run into them then ye I would speak to the guards.

Thanks Colly for your opinion.. Will think about that

You can almost always find a person's IP address from an e-mail they sent, even if it is through a web-based service like gmail. It wouldn't be that hard to trace a person from that information, if there is a criminal charge involved.

Edit: Maybe even just letting them know about this fact would stop them

Threats of causing bodily harm, in writing, will be listened to buy the cops. They can and they WILL bring charges, there will be someone to listen to you and hopefully they will work at making you feel safer.
Also report the person to the social networking site and get their site blocked, and make your page private, so you can ignore the person should they start another page.
Good luck and carry a small bottle of hair spray in your bag, so if you meet this person, you can spray them in the face and get away.
