I was considering buying a panasonic 50" plasma tv in England. It says the tv comes with Freesat.
Is this of any use in Ireland now or in the future?.
Would freesat have any negative effect on the reception in Ireland?.

    Any advice appreciated.

it has freesat, which means you'll get the Freesat channels.

    www.freesat.co.uk

it wont have an Irish tuner though, so you'll need some sort of digital tv signal (ntl digital, sky etc)

if you are going for a 50" i would definetly go with lcd rather than plasma. at that size you are practically guaranteed to get the dreaded ghosting,no such issues with lcd.

the bigger the screen, go lcd

the smaller the screen, go plasma.

i think you're a bit confused there mate.

other way round. the bigger the screen, go plasma.

ghosting is an lcd issue, not plasma.

Is freesat available in Ireland, I have Sky in at the moment. I'm using a uk card and subscription and receiving the Irish channels through an outdoor aerial.
Would this be a problem with the new plasma tv?.

yeah freesat works fine here. i have it at home now with the Humax foxsat-hd box.

the irish channels wouldnt come through from your outdoor aerial on that freesat tv.

what i have is an irish model panasonic plasma with the humax hd box for freesat.

you can also get the freesat box there as well for €250

So I won't be able to receive the Irish channels.

What are my options on how to receive these?.

you could get an irish dvd recorder or vcr and tune the channels into that and use it to view the channels on your TV.

That freesat website gives the impression you could have both sky and freesat using the sky dish simultaneously! Can anyone confirm this??

How much work would be involved in connecting it all up to the sky dish??Could you do it yourself??The sound of free hdtv is pretty tempting

you need a second cable coming from your satellite for freesat. If you have sky+ then you can use it's 2nd input and lose the ability to record one program and watch another.
