Is it the constant topic of conversation? Is everyone always wanting differnt temperatures in your office like in mine? Is there a way to keep everyone happy?

It does be fecking freezing in my office and thus I now have a cold. I have to wear a jumper in work as i sit under where the air blows out so theres constanly coldish air running by my face, it piusses me of so much. If i turn it up someone will be moaning its to feckin warm and its turned back down and its like feckin Siberia again.

lol, it used be in an office I work in.

There is none in the office I work in now, and the flipping heating was broken until this morning.

You didn't get your cold from the changing temperatures or from being cold. You got your cold from a virus that you caught from someone else.

But yes, in any office I've been in it seems impossible to to have everybody agree on a temperature. For some reason I find women complain about it being too cold whilst men complain about it being too warm. I've no idea why.

Thankfully my job has me in the car on my own for most of the day so I'm in charge of the temperature with no whingers on board :D

OMG......are you working in my office???? Cos this is a bone of contension where i work. Every and I mean EVERY meeting we have this is on the agenda and there is NEVER a solution. The hot bods who are all menopausal by the way are not will to move desks and sit under the drafts and then the very few youngster like myself are stuck under hurricane hannah!!! This results in me going to work like an onion.......Layers will become your best friend........one word THERMALS!!!

We have now resigned ourselves to not discussing it any more as it only results in a fight. Its gotten so bad that management are sick to death of the whole thing. There is one person in particular that is the s*** stirrer when it comes to this. She walked into the office yesterday, she was not there 2 minutes and started complaining of the heat and wanted to know if we had the heat on before she came in and if so we shouldnt!! When she was told that it wasnt she wouldnt believe us......what do you do????:mad::mad::mad:

    This happens in every office.
And it's ALWAYS the women who complain about the cold. Some lads could be almost passing out from the heat but the women will go mad if you so much as look at the airconditioning.

If people are cold then can put on a jumper. But if people are warm, are you expected to strip?

I've a fan on my desk, I take complaints off noone!

This happens in my job all the time, the two most talked about things in the shop are..."Its really warm/Cold today, Isn't it?" and "The days going really slow today".

They talk about the temperature of the place and the weather outside? They also explain the day is magically going faster or dragging in? Time does not speed up...

I remember a woman I worked with for a while on a temp job had a fan on one side of her and a small little floor heater on the other. Both always switched on. Never did understand that.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

(That is, open windows or close windows - no AC).

    Its IRELAND FFS! :)

We don't need air conditioning... Problem solved :pac:

Plus, it was freezing outside today. Why was it on in the first place?

Nothing against the OP but I despise people that complain of the cold and want the heating on all the time. Wear some more clothes.

I do not want to be stuck in an office.
I most definitely dont want to be stuck in a stuffy overly warm office which propagates germs.
We are not living in siberia.

Something that always made me wonder...

Why is anyone ever sitting under an aircon unit?

In old converted buildings - I can understand.

    But in new office buildings?
Surely they had plans, did the mech & elec people not talk to the people who draw those little desks with autocad? Why oh why would they put any desk under an aircon unit?

Because of the printers in our 'gaff, the temperature is pretty standard at about 26-28'C. If it's too warm, open the door.

3 lads in our place, and we're all fairly in agreement with how warm or cold. customers complain all the time though, and we're like "we work here, how dya think we feel?"

The managers would always set it very high in my old call centre job and a few people would open windows beside them. :) My library job, temperature is consistent around the building. We're spoiled, better off if we hadn't any at all.

Bloody freezin in the morning and warm in the afternoon which puts me to sleep.

We'd be grand if the feckin thing was just turned off for 6 months of the year (couldn't live without it in summer though!)

Im not bothered about the temperature in the office, I leave that to the hormonal wans.

I do get a tingle on the rim of my nostrils however when the air con is on which annoys me but I keep it all bottled up.

I blame wimmin folk, there body temperature varies on a monthly cycle so must the aircon, loads of wimmins means loads of variation.

Also, i hear there periods attract BEARS!

Increase circulation of the warm air?

Our office is actually okay, though I get some of the girls complaining that it's cold over near my desk. Upon looking, the AC control for my section is just beside me...

What you really mean is that the women in the office want the temperature to be similar to the inside of a reptile tank, and the people with normal temperature regulation, i.e. men, want it turned down.

I work in facilities in a large building and I'm the eejit who has to look after the aircon amongst other things. We've implemented a new system of central control. The children couldn't be trusted to change it for themselves without bickering so now they need to file a request to have it changed. It's a bit excessive to be honest but it seems to have helped a bit.

It's a building with 700 people in it so I'd receive about 15 requests/complaints a day to change the temperature. I can definitely confirm that at least 80% of these requests/complaints come from women. I can only assume it's a genetic/hormonal thing. But that said, it is the same people who continually come back moaning. If they move desk then their new area suddenly "develops" aircon issues. Of course, the issue is not with the aircon....it's with some spoilt princess who demands the temperature be kept at 25C and heating when others around them are fainting with the heat.

Also, opening the windows just f*cks it up. The air conditioning will try to balance out the temperature change normally and you'll just waste a ****load of energy. Next time you're cold put a jumper on folks!

The air conditioning (or the heating system, most systems are both these days?) is a breeding ground for the cold and flu viruses, it just throws them around the office so if one person in the office has a cold everyone is going to get it. Its who is ever sitting under the fans in the roof that is going to feel it the most. I iwsh it was just a heating system and there were windows, like in school, everybody was grand then!!

The cold air blowing past the face dries up the nose and everything and it feels like you've been sitting on a plance for 8 hours. ive just given up at this stage, one minute i'll be freezing and have my jacket and everything on, the next i'll be roasting as somebodies put it up to high, craziness i tells ya!

I have a panel in my own office with 6 different heat settings and you proles on the workshop floor can freeze or roast for all I care.

This topic used to cause RUCTIONS in my old job. The building was a 1970's 4 storey jobbie, and my company spent well over a million installing air-con - bad, bad, bad idea. Spoke to someone in HR about 6 months after it went in and she said the number of sick days had jumped since it was installed.

On the floor I worked, there were just constant complaints about it. I actually ended up doing a survey about it, and to nobody's surprise, the results were split almost right down the middle along gender lines, with a slight variation among people sitting around the perimeter of the office, where pretty much everyone was freezing. It just boils down to the fact that men have a faster metabolism than women, so they don't feel the cold as much.

No satisfactory compromise was ever reached. It just kept coming down to "Well, if you're cold, put on a jumper" and "Well if YOU'RE warm, just wear a t-shirt!". Personally, I used to keep a fleece at my desk, but that didn't really help on the days where my hands were so cold I could barely type.

I think the best solution would have been to switch off the air-conditioning altogether and just allow people to open a window if they thought it was a bit warm, but management's attitude was "We spent a fortune installing this, so we're going to bloody well use it!"

Thankfully, the building I work in now has no air-conditiong, and there are very few complaints about the temperature. If someone gets hot, they open a window, once it cools down, they close it again.

Air quality also tends to be far better in buildings with no air-conditioning.

Sorry man, it's probably legionnaires disease. You'd best forget about the jumper and start wearing a mask.

I hate those bloody plug in heaters! I used to sit beside a girl in one office, lovely girl great friend etc, but she was the proud owner of a plug in heater. The thing went on when she came in and only went off at the end of the day. This left me wearing sod all during the winter as it was so bloody warm. Then having to have a couple of extra layers at my desk incase I had to go any where else in the office. Plug in heaters should be banned in an open plan office!

Men's body temperature is 1 degree higher than womens. This is because of evolution. When we were all living in caves, the men would have to go out and hunt, while the wimmins stayed in the cave doin the ironing. therefore men needed a higher body temperature to survive :)

We dont have A/C in my office, which sucks for me cause im nowhere near a window and its always stuffy and the window people wont open their precious windows for me for a bit of circulation :(

    air conditioning in ireland? wtf?

you guys live a cushy life. what a waste of money to install something that will only be used two days a year

with global warming we will just get more rain and they won't be used at all.
