I was thinking of removing Vista from my laptop and installing XP, can this be done?
Will it affect my laptop settings in anyway and is it worth doing. I am at the end of my tether trying to get my laptop to recognise my ipod, hoping this might work.

    Yes

If you find all drivers (possibly impossible for some models) you will get all functionality, chances are you might loose a few features, depends on the laptop model though

Do other usb devices work in the machine? Do you have the latest itunes from www.itunes.com installed? Ipod works fine for me on vista, If you have itunes and quicktime installed, uninstall both applications and re-install using the latest itunes installer

Seems a bit drastic just to get i Tunes working.

It can be done (i've done it on an Inspiron - due to lack of drivers for equipment I have) but you need to have your ducks (drivers ) in a row first and an alternative pc to get on the net when you run into trouble

Its not just for itunes, I have autocad 2005 that will not run properly on vista either. I have tried uninstalling itunes about 50 times but never quicktime. Does this make a difference? All other usb devices work. Sometimes it recognises the ipod as a camera.
I have a HP pavillion laptop if that makes any difference to the xp thing.

You should be able to run autocad in xp compatibility mode from Vista with no problems

Check your model HERE to see if all the drivers are available for XP.

If they are? download them all before you go any further & hold them on an external drive until needed.

i was thinking of doing the same but a fellow boarder came to my rescue !

i was advised too uninstall itunes, rename itunesinstaller to something else, then reinstall, then ipod should now get detected in itunes.

hope this works for you !

    cheers !

What exactly do you mean by rename itunes installer?
