Is there anyway to configure outlook to use an outgoing mail server whereever I am, at the moment it only works at home because it is configured to my ISP's stmp server.

maybe something like this http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/thunderbird_portable if the computer other than you home computer is @ college for example where the chances of you being at the same machine every time are slim, as far as i know you would need to configure outlook on avery pc you use for the 1st time, and a few other issues depending on the network etc. so portable thunder bird might do the job for you.

The problem you are experiencing is because you need to use a relay server if you are sending using SMTP from outlook.

While it used to be very easy to move from one ISPs network to another and use one server, this has generally been disabled (to prevent spam mailers misusing it)

These days, you generally have to use the relay server belonging to the ISP who's network you happen to be using at the time you send an email.

So if you're connected via Eircom at the moment you want to send mail, you need to use Eircom's SMTP server, but if if you're connected by NTL at that moment, you will need to use NTL's SMTP server, and so on. This only effects outgoing mail, the incoming POP servers never need to be changed. This has nothing to do with who provides your email account, only who's providing you connection from your current location.

There's not a lot you can do as far as I know. I used to have to keep a list of mail servers and changed them accordingly as I moved my laptop from site to site. These days I redirect all my mail through Gmail, so I can still access it on Outlook (and Keep it backed up), but I can access it via Gmail wherever I happen to be anyway.
