What is your staple drink?

Hi all first post here in this forum, can't believe I missed it until now.

As thread title suggest, I'm curious as to what people are drinking these days as their old reliable drink.

I'm a 22 yo man and my numero uno is Smithwick's, sometimes with the occasional dart splash of Guinness if I'm feeling "special". I won't drink it everywhere though as I've gotten some horrible pints but back home in the local it is so creamy, smooth and an all round orgasmic experience. I'd drink Guinness or Heineken from time to time for variation and bottles of miller/corona/Heineken if there was horrible pints somewhere ie. a nightclub. Keep me as far away from the jaeger bombs if possible, serious damage to be done thereafter.

So what are you into? Tell us your most regular/staple tipple please.

Stout, Ale, Lager, Weissbier, Cider, Vodka, Whiskey, Rum, Gin, Wine, brandy, other liqueur, Alcopops(*shudders*). What does it for you?

    Ale
Yeah a Special is great done right. Otherwise Guinness or sometimes Carlsberg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,796 ✭✭✭coillcam

    Lager
I'll be voting ale obviously but I'd say it'll turn out like this.

    1. lager
    2. Stout
    3. Vodka
    4. Cider

    Lager
Ale for me. While not exclusively an ale drinker, I drink a wide range of beers, but I guess ale would cover most.

    Lager
    Ale!!
I like to try lots of different styles of beers but I'm pretty much an ale drinker, mostly.
Not really in the Smithwicks sense, more coz my fav beers are the Trappist beers, namely the rocheforts and chimays.

Quick, close the poll now before all the lager drinkers fall out of bed and start voting. [/stereotype]

    Lager
I'm another ale-head. I probably drink more Galway Hooker than anything else.

    Vodka
Wine, although sadly the selection in most Irish pubs leaves rather a lot to be desired, which is why I generally tend to drink at home.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,992 ✭✭✭✭gurramok

    Ale
Stout in the pub as Ale not commonly available on tap other than Smithwicks which is not my fav.
From the Offie, it has to be Ale followed by Stout.

    Wine
If available, i'll generally go for Weissbier, preferably Hefe Weizen like Paulaner or Erdinger.
But, unfortunatly, in England it's generally not, so I go for ale.

However, if a pub has a beer I particularly like, or am interested in trying, I'll go for that.

    Lager
Most of what I drink is ale.

I'm fond of stouts as well, but they're not so common, really (good thing, too, or my cellar would be full to overflowing of O'Hara's Celebration).

Weizenbiers I also like, but they're more of a summer thing, I think.

    Lagers I rarely drink.

Spirits I do not drink (with the exception of that bottle of ouzo from the little old lady in the little shop in the little town somewhere in Greece...).

Wine, sometimes. Cider, never, nor alcopops.

    Lager
    Ale.

Smithwicks, always with a guinness head, until I notice large bottles of McArdles on a shelf somewhere.

London Pride at home usually, or some other ale on sale in the offo.

I will try the odd lager too.

But I'm finding it increasingly hard to stomach any more than three pints of lager in a night.

    Ale
I drink Stout in a pub, but am growing to dislike it, a bland drink, with a guaranteed "head" the next morning. Pint bottles of Guinness if the place sells them (am I the only one noticing that more and more places are actually stocking pint bottles of it?).

Jameson, either with ice, or sometimes with ginger ale if I dont feel like beer.

At home, its exclusively either pint bottles of Guinness, or the unbelievably delicious London Pride. Although a 6 pack of Sam Adams finds it way into my trolley when it is in stock. If I see a new Ale being stocked, I will pick a few up, apart from Bishops Finger, which I think is putrid stuff.

It doesn't sit well in clear glass bottles. I like it when it's good, but have had a fair few bad ones so only buy it when Superquinn are selling it for €1.75 a go.

Yea dam light striking, its such a pity that a beer that use a decent amounts of hops use clear glassing know it will probably sit on a shelf longer that something like miller

    Alcopops
cider mostly. will have odd guiness. or at home polish/cheq beers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

I'll always have a Guinness to start when I'm out. I like a few Erdingers when I'm kicking back at home or a glass of Villa Maria sauvignon blanc.

    Pint would be cider.
Apart from that jameson and orange juice. Gorgeous

    Weissbier
    lager, lager, lager

    and fizzy wine

    and champagne :D

Not in that order, only in terms of how the bank balance is.

Ale. Sierra Nevada usually, sometimes Harpoon to save a few dollars. When in Ireland it is stout or wine. From Dublin but even there it's a beer wasteland for the most part. Reckon I'd be close to teetotal if I moved home.

That's far from true. You just have to know where to look.

I don't doubt there's good beer in Ireland. I've been to the Porterhouse and they had a good selection but it's too much hassle going in to town and to be honest I wasn't gone on the clientele. In most locals in Ireland it's Guinness or nothing for me. Just saying that most nights I'd opt for nothing. Now, if my local had Galway Hooker I'd be delighted.

Well there's your rookie mistake: looking for good beer in the pub.
