I have no choice in taking a pay cut, i can't get my customers to pay on time, and in some cases not at all.:(

Not if I want to keep eating, paying rent etc.

If you can read this, you're too close!

Let the government lead by example. If all of them took a pay drop of 10%, then there would be a bit more money to help out in different areas.

i could probably take a pay cut of 20% or so and still be very comfortable. Then again after rent and food i'm only pissing the rest away, so it's not like i've got massive expenses or anything.

Hmm, let's see! Gas up, lecky up, petrol up, inflation up, price of a pint and packet of fags after the next budget, you better believe up. Now will I take a pay cut? Erm...................no!

Very true. I was going to say at least 10%, but I needed to be somewhere realistic!

No, because I don't think I'd have a problem getting a job with similar (possibly better) pay.

    This is crazy !!

Ive been in jobs where they said " if we dont cut cost, you will lose your job" This was in a very well know Sunday paper... they wouldnt take the decrease..they all lost their jobs and are now trying to be taxi men or bus drivers!!

Another well know, stock brokers were all told their their payslip will go down 5 to 10 % these are people on over 100k and also the lower paid 30 - 50k, they took it...and kept their jobs.

Whats worse losing 300 a month or losing your full wage of 3,000 in todays market and going on the dole...no brainer for me

    Gaz

I wouldn't take a 0.1% pay cut because why should I when the government who should be leading us out of this mess by showing some leadership, and can well afford more than any of us to take a pay cut but haven't??? I said on another thread that if I was in I was Biffo or Brian Lenihan, around 6 months ago, I'd have taken a self imposed pay cut of 10% and enforced that on every TD in the cabinet. When you do that, then your in a position to ask others to show some moderation and make some sacrifice, but your in no position whatsoever to do that when you are living in a world where you don't have to bakc up your expenses with receipts, etc.

If i was to be given a choice of a cut in wages or highly likely be let go i would take the cut. I'd rather work for a little less than not work at all.

That has nothing to do with you !! its your house, family thats on the line, not theirs ! Do you think they give two fcuks if your on the dole and lose your house because you cant get another job?

My bro in law, was told to sack 10 people two weeks ago...one sales bloke got on his knees and begs for his job...just bought house, two young kids....he ended up staying in the job...how?..told my bro that he will work 100% on commission..no sales..no salary!! he thought that was better than going on dole or looking for a new job.

So your boss calls you in at the end off today and says " Darragh, 10% decrease or you lose your job" what are you going to say..." ok boss, ill take it as soon as Biffo takes his decrease" !!!

Not possible. I am the boss. I'm the stupid cu*t who has to pay through my t*ts in tax for the luxuries that these fat c*nts up in Kildare Street are enjoying while telling the rest of us to tighten our belts.

Leadership has to come from the top Gaz.

    .

We all pay taxes so were all paying for these luxuries, but at the end of the day...they will never give themself a decrease so why worry about them, think of number one...thats what their doing!
And if you are the boss and self employed, could you not lose your job like many self employed builders, plasters, salesmen? did you not hear about the recession :D

Damn it... read the title of the post "Would You?..." and though it was pics of someones ma... and had already answered YES YES YES...

Now I realise the true nature of the thread and would deffinately say NO NO NO to this one... prices are going up wouldnt take a pay-cut... luckily could probably move to another company if needs be and probably get an increase - so im deffinately against a pay-cut...

BUT i can understand others saying they would ... as although im in the lucky category, if I didnt have options then I would prefer to have SOME money than none at all...

I recently pulled down the shutters on one of my businesses and I won't say that it was entirely due to the economic conditions but it was a factor in my decision. I also wanted to spend more time on another project I'm working on but yes, what is going on now with the recession did play a part in my decision.

It's like this Gaz, I'm hearing a lot lately from fat c*nts in suits in Leinster House about public sector pay and how we are paying ourselves too much, and about how we need to slice some meat off this public sector bone.

Now let's see how we could make a start on this... Hmmm, well let's start at the start and look at who are the highest paid. TD's! We don't want to rattle their union, or wait a minute, they don't have a union! Let's see if we can manage their expenses a bit better, oh wait, their expenses are not managed at all, they can claim expenses for absolutely anything and there is no accountability in place!?!?!

You see that mentality that you stated there, "think of number one"... That's a product of the leadership you've been exposed to. Some selfless action from the top would displace a lot of this mentality and replace it with some notion of collective civic responsibility, where we are all in this together.

I assume you earn less than the dole, otherwise a pay cut is better than no job.

I see everyone is doign the same and jumping straight to no. Is the dole really better than your current job with less money.

Again, I agree....lets be honest...if they let go 1/3rd of the public sector, it would be a huge savings and would not effect how the country is run, there is waaayy too much dead wood and it needs to be cleaned out!! I remember reading that some French comp came in a compiled a report that, so many 1000's of P.Sector staff should be let go and it was all pushed under the carpet
