..guitars, amps, drum parts, keyboards or whatever it is you play have you sold down through the years ? I've sold two Ibanez guitars myself (S 670, and SA 320FM *i think*). The guitar I have now is a keeper so won't be selling that anytime soon.

    Yourselves ?

I've sold one guitar (modded SX) and one up for sale at the moment. Other than that, I've sold a few amps and a couple of effects pedals too.

    Dozens...too much to count:pac: You've got a ex-guitar of mine iirc Pyr0!:D

I sold my first guitar to help pay for the second, sold my first amp to pay for the next...and it just goes from there. Its GAS isn't it? Im happy to buy a new piece of gear, get enjoyment out of it for a year or two, and selling it to buy something else.

It doesnt cost much if you get good deals, and its nice to have had the experience of lots of different stuff. You see some guys spouting complete rubbish about gear and brands they've never even seen/played, so its nice to have actually owned a few bits of gear over the years and be able to form a genuine opinion on it.

Can't say I've kept track tbh. Sold a fair few things over the years. ;)

Does that include your body Karl ? People resort to desperate measures sometimes to get new gear ! :pac:

Aye I do indeed voodoo, and i'm keeping her ;)

Sold an Edwards Les Paul (mint) JS edition, Epiphone Les Paul Custom with 2 Dimarzio X2N's, Korean made Dean, a poxy Marshall Valvestate 8080, Line 6 POD XT Live (big regret) and a clatter of Boss pedals and some more to go soon, if i can help it.

A guitar collection is going soon, PRS among others. A fricken waste if you are not using them, so that's that.

How many guitars do you have ?! And you're only just getting around to selling a collection ? Mad stuff !

I was thinking of selling my podxt to go for a Podx3 live, not sure if there'd be that much of a difference between the two.

The only stuff I've sold is a Hohner acoustic (my first guitar), a no-name Les Paul (first electric), a Fender JAM that had push buttons for tone selection!!(first amp) and an Elka 30 Watt transistor amp that sounded like a bag of cat's.
Everything I've bought since has been good gear and I can't bring myself to sell any of it. The spare room now has eight guitars, six amps and loads of effects pedals. :D

    Thats a good question:

    First Up - Guitars
Squire P-Bass Special - Still have this, I tried to make it a fretless. Also snapped the Truss Rod

Aria Pro IGB-68 - Fantastic Bass, My first 'proper' Guitar. Sold it to pay for an Ibanez Electric when I switched to Guitar for a couple of years

Epiphone Les Paul Special - First Electric - Broke in half suprisingly Easy

Kramer 5 string - Great sounding Bass - never suited my style though. Sold it to -=Al=-

Ibanez SZ520 - Nice guitar - Traded it for a Telecaster Custom

Fender DG-14 Acoustic - Pretty ordinary acoustic

84 Japanese Fender Strat - bought on Adverts for nearly nothing. Great guitar after i got a setup done on it

72 Telecaster custom - My only right handed guitar set up backwards (im a lefty)

SX P-Bass - Terrible sound, great playability, bought to tide me over until I could afford:

American Fender Precision Bass - Bought new in New York this year. Got it for €500 as it was "the old model" ie 2005

    Amps:
    Peavey minx 110 - sold
Laney R2 (I think) Bass amp - traded
Ashdown Electric Blue 180 watt - sold
    Trace Elliot RA250 - sold
    Peavey Valveking 212 - sold
    Marshall JCM 900 212
    Microcube
    Eden traveler WT-300

All that i want to get now is a Decent 4x10 for that Eden. But as you all know ill probably warrant buying something else that I dont need pretty soon.
    Probably a Jazz Bass....

    Guitars:
Tokai LS50 (1981) Les Paul. Don't miss it as it was only average.
Fender Strat Highway 1. Nice guitar but not good enough for what I wanted and never quite right either.
Gibson Les Paul Standard Faded tobacco. Probably the most dissappointing purchase I made. Nice sound but ugly and horrible to play.
Parker Tele style yoke. Rubbish guitar. Badly built, sounding and feel.

    Amps:
Fender M80 Chorus. Solid State 100 watt 90's amp. Not bad but not great either.
Laney LC30 II. Not bad either but lacking in something and needed to be very loud to get anything out of it.

    Pedals/effects:
    Tokai Overdrive
    Marshall Chorus
    Vox Tonelab
    Ibanez Flanger

To be honest I have kept more than I have sold on.

I was thinking of selling my podxt to go for a Podx3 live, not sure if there'd be that much of a difference between the two.

PRS CU22 x 2 (Emearld Green and Sunburst)
    PRS CU24 - Yellow
PRS CE22 x 2 (Blue and Vintage Sunburst)
    PRS Singlecut Satin Emearld Green
    Ibanez JS1200
    Fender USA Strat Plus
    Music Man Axis
    Peavey Wolfgang
Gibson Les Paul Standard in Cherry Sunburst
    Gibson Flying V

By the way, the POD XT Live was a great buy and i regretted selling it.
The X3 Live is maybe a bit better, but build quality not quite as good.
I saw a POD XT Live going for €200 in the Buy & Sell recently.

i still have that kramer bass! i hardly play it its freaking ginormous :) i go through phases playing it i guess

    very handy for recording though

i think ive only ever sold a boss dd-3 i had after i got a dd-20, i tend to just keep things i get

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,065 ✭✭✭✭Malice

I haven't sold much of my gear. My first bass was traded in for my second bass and my first bass amp was traded in for my second bass amp. I've kept all my guitars and only ever bought one guitar amp. My brother has inherited any of my still-functioning effects units and pedals.

I think the effort required to sell the cheap gear that I have would far outweigh the potential earnings which would probably just get spent on beer (not that that's necessarily a bad thing) ;).

It's all collateral man......better than firing it at a barman and then peeing it down the toilet hole.

First guitar & amp, basically gave away to someone who was interested in starting out.
Only other things I have moved on has been me Schecter Hellraiser and Boss Metalzone pedal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

Epiphone Les Paul Special II - Black (for sale)
Fender Stratocaster Mexican - Blue (got for free)
    Roland Cube 15
Dunlop CryBaby Wah and didjital tuner. And two leads.

    That's more than enough :D

And about my past, I have destroyed, crashed and burned few acoustic guitars. What experience - jumping on that cracking wood and throuwing it into BBQ!

Why did you get rid of the hellraiser?

    PRS Santana SE

    1952RI Tele mit Bigsby

    Boss Blues Driver

and I'll be getting rid of my Blues Deluxe when my top secret Deluxe Reverb clone arrives.

To fund the purchase of me Edwards. I do miss the Schecter though.

Zoom GFX-707 to make room and money for Boss GT-6.
Boss CE-5 Chorus for the same, but should have kept it.
OLP MM1 (in purple flame :D ) to raise funds for G&L ASAT Deluxe. I think I'll get the MusicMan equivalent in time as I really liked that guitar.
1981 Fender P-bass (thought it was '77) to fund snow season in New Zealand.
MIM Fender Standard Strat to replace money spent on said trip! :D
