    Have you thought of a concrete countertop? We had ours done about 3 years ago & still love it. We just got a matching kitchen table done a few months ago. Plus they are eco-friendly. If you put concrete countertops in the search there are a few good threads on them.

    How exactly is concrete eco friendly?
    i'd really love to hear the marketing spin on that one because concrete (via cement) is likely the worst material in terms of the environment (out the the standard building materials obvously)

    I think they are a lot friendlier than granite or marble which is mostly quarried in India & China then shipped over here in slabs. But here are two links that you can read and make up your own mind
