Sony RDR-HXD870 and Freesat

Finally taken the plunge and bought a freesat box. Just want to find out if anybody knows if I connect my Sony RDR-HXD870 DVD/HDD recorder to the freesat box will the Guide+ function work with the freesat ?

I'd be very interested to read an answer to your question. This could be an alternative to the PVR/HDR version of Freesat.

I also wonder how is the loss in quality when you record HD channels. I know the HQ+ option of Sony is supposed to be one if not the best way of recording, but you'd have to be very picky to notice the difference (with SP quality) when recording SD channels.

The guideplus sytem is broadcast throught the analogue ITV networks and throught eurosport on sky as far as i understand so if you have no access to either either living in the republic and/or with a freesat box then the guideplus function is unlikelyto work.
However i would be happy to be corrected as i have an almost redundant sony hdd/dvd recorder that i have brought over from england with a "freesat from sky card and box" so can only use it on manual record and with the autoview function on the skybox epg activated.

any additional thoughts?

I thought that the Guide+ worked with Freeview and thats digital not analouge ?

Not sure but. Freeview in through an aerial so ......

as far as i understand the epg stream for guideplus is broadcast only thorough analogue ITV CHANNELS and through eurosport on sky digital in the UK, the EPG on freeview is a completely different system.

however some of the newer guideplus equiped boxes esp from sony panasonic etc also have freeview tuners as well which use use the freeview epg data.(only useful if you can get adequate uk freeview coverage mostly in north and east ROI.)

Is the receiver an FTA or Freesat satellite receiver?

I dont believe any of the Freesat have the ability to automatically turn on from standby if you have reminders set and send the signal to an external recorder to start recording.

I know the Bush HD box doesn't as I have tried it.

Wonder about the Humax Foxsat. Such a pity, they wouldn't include this functionality. They might not wanna do it to get their PVRs to sell more...
