I'm looking to buy an r4 card or similar for my womans DS but there seems to be a multitude of different ones around and I have no idea what's good and what's not, so can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Help/advice greatly appreciated, thanks! :)

Thanks but that's a link to a 42 page thread which is six months out of date. I don't really fancy reading for 8 days to get old information! :)

Does anyone know of any recent cards that are worth getting?

Well, the one that I have, and if you just check around, is known as the best card by far, is the CycloDS Evolution.

    Here's some links:

The DSTT is what everyone seems to be going for now. Cheap and reliable. Supports SDHC.

I set one up for someone recently (which was great as I got to try it out too) and was impressed.

Keep meaning to replace my aging r4 with one actually.

There was a problem with fake DSTTs for a while though. Have they gone back to the originals (without the gold dot) yet?
The EDGE card is a watered down version of CycloDS and has an excellent build quality.
The AK2 Akercard has a fantastic reputation also. I havent tried it yet though but the old DSTT and EDGE are a lot better than the R4.

Dont know about using that site, seems very rushed, lot of blank pages. Site was only created on the 9th of august. Deal Extreme is a site used by loads of people on boards, trustworthy, but delivery can be 3 weeks+, but prices are fantastic, and delivery is free.

For example: New TopToy DSTT Multimedia Card for NDS and NDS Lite (Supports SDHC) for $11.07 (~€8.01 Delivered!)
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15613

Cant say if that card is good, but i bet its worth €8. Loads of different r4 type cards there, have a good look around at the reviews on site for each card, they all seem pretty honest.

trust me that site consolemodz worked a treat for me it was free delivery too and paid by paypal so if any problems u can just open a dispute and get ur money back easy as that

as for those hongkong sites they will take weeks for the product to come and u never know what will happen with customs with it.. mine only took 3 days to arrive

I found dealextreme to be great, v reliable and their delivery times were good. I always have had my purchases delivered in under 2 weeks. 2 weeks is only a long time if you are in a hurry with something!! I have never gotten a customs bill either. The things I buy are small though so probably not worth investigating further :)

Dealextreme don't do the R4's anymore but Volumerate do and they seem to be just as reliable. I have the R4's myself and even though they may be considered "old" they work fine and are very easy to set up and use. If you are giving it to a non tech type person then its good, its pretty idiot proof :p

I don't have any experience with the other cards mentioned here to be able to give an opinion.

there's new dstt cards out now, got a few myself last week and very impressed, before that when i ordered i got a few of the fake ones which i have had no problems with either so far..
id recommend the dstt very cheap so if anything does go wrong your out of pocket only about 15 euro

I got an r4 sdhc recently. It works perfectly so far but these cards are fakes.Real cards don't support SDHC asfaik.

Mine was sold as the genuine article on amazon.co.uk.I had read up first and I ordered the real card there. It even listed the software version as the most recent release on the genuine r4 site but when it arrived it was a nslr4 R4 card.I'm not sure what the implications of using a fake card are if it works ok but I do know it's annoying not to get what you pay for.

The cards that support sdhc seem to made by these people www.ndslr4.com.
Note the similarity to the genuine site :www.r4ds.cn . Beware!

yeah R4 SDHC's are fake, so no comeback if you get a fakey that bricks your DS, I've just stuck an order in for some AceKards 2.1 from DealExtreme, also you need to make sure your the Micro SDHC's cards are class 4 at the very least and Class 6 if possible.

I'll report back when I get them.

They're a good card. Up there with the DSTT and EDGE. Personally I'd pick the old DSTT or the new EDGE as build quality is quite decent. The AceKard and newer DSTT seem a little flimsy but in terms of operation, they do exactly whats needed. DSTT has a simpler interface so probably more kid friendly (requires about 3 clicks less than the other 2) and is a lot cheaper. Any of these 3 or the cyclods is a good buy. The R4 is now more or less obsolete and the R4 SDHC is, as mentioned previously, a clone.

i would definately choose r4sdhc it is made very well i have dstt also and this does not play all new games so i got r4 sdhc from consolemodz.com and it plays all the latest games perfectly

Do you work for consolemodz.com or something?
You keep posting on all the threads about how great it and R4 sdhc are despite them being a fake card and people having reported problems with them? It is easily the weakest card I've tried (bar the god awful DS Firelink card) and cant understand why you plug it so much. What experience of other cards do you have so we can see you're giving a fair comparison?

no mate i dont work for them i am an unemployed student in galway, just happy with it cause i can play all the latest games on it unlike the dstt i have which wont play the latest games but i still good for the old ones. i have been just telling of my good experience with this company and answered a few questions people were having on this topic because i have a small bit of knowledge on the subject. thats all i can do mate

ye i got a DSTT off dealextreme/volumerate (are they the same thing?) and then got an 8gb card off ebay for 30euro.

both work perfect and i have mine stuffed with lots of stuff to keep me occupied. Handy, since im travelling oz for the year so that involved a lot of flights, buses and trains!

I have ordered a DSTT and kingston 8GB class 4 card on dealextreme, €29 for the pair of them. Have you had any trouble with the file sizes? I have heard something about no more than 50 files in a folder or something. Cards are even cheaper on ebay but I didn't want to risk it, some are only half the quoted size, or not the rated speed, unless you go with reliable powersellers, ends up the same as dealextreme in that case though.

Also my mate has a M3 DS Real, and he got a guide with it saying to put no more than 20 games on it at once, came with a 1GB card. Not sure what happens if he did put on more than that.

Have used loads of them and find them great.

Easier to sort the files into various folders, takes sdhc, easy to download a single cheat file that covers almost all games, moonshell so watching video content and music is pretty good, any queries or specific questions just send a pm or ask here.

Almost forgot, the Micro sd goes in the side.

Is it the EZ Flash V or EZ Flash V Plus ?

Got a DSTT from dealxtreme with a 2GB card for the princely sum of €13.50, absolutely chuffed to bits with it so far... Looking at the guide on the DSTT site, this doesn't seem to be a fake either.
Haven't had much experience with other recent cards, but at that kind of price you really can't go wrong...

The R4 IS obsolete. The manufacturers have stopped releasing firmware for it - there hasn't been a firmware update since April 2008. People have moved on to alternative cards.
