Some great shots there, 4/5 and 8 are excellent

    Some nice photos there.
    Q. Did you use AutoFocus or manual-focus ? ie. the pics seem good & sharp, which I find difficult with my E510 with auto-focus.
    I presume you were using the 14-42mm & 40-150mm standard lens's.

1, 4 and 8 are the pick of the bunch for me.

With #1, I'd suggest cropping out all of the sky, and with #4 some cropping of the foreground would benefit the shot. :)

Change to above - No. 5 wasn't taken with the E-520 - it was taken with my compact (Casio Exilm) as the battery on the E-520 was empty

Not 100% on this - I can check later - but auto-focus for most - possibly manual focus for 6 and maybe 8. I think they were all taken with the 14-42mm. Only exception might be No. 4.

As someone who went and took hundreds of photos (most of which are sitting untouched on my hard drive since...)...

    #4 is nice

I like the simplicity and peacefulness of #7 - a "different" type of shot. Shame about the blurred leafy branch (?) in the foreground obstructing the stones. I'd have a go at cloning that out.

#8 - shiny cabs, yay! Aren't they great?!

    @Morrisseeee:
Can't find what focus was used. 14-42mm was used on all.

    See below regarding #1.

With #4 there's a few different versions on Flickr - some without foreground - others from slightly different angles. I like them all - wasn't sure which one to put up here :)

The old man is a buddist monk i'm guessing. Below is another shot I like without the 'sky', a bit more zoomed in and without the monk.

Nice set. I'd agree about cropping the sky in #1, keep the monk though. He's the focal point of the image. The version without doesn't have the same impact.
You don't have to keep the aspect ratio of the picture when you crop, so just chop the top off.

I think #2 should be rotated to have it symmetrical with the line of the pagoda running down the centre.

Other than that, #5, and #8 are very good.

Do love 1 & 7 best, 1 is a great scenic shot and in 7, the trees look almost like fireworks.

Off topic I know but Imposter, I'm going to Japan in 2 months and not terribly well prepared. Would be very grateful if you could write a review of your experiences in the travel section.

That won't be happening - it sounds like a lot of effort :)
