Best priced mid-sized laptop

    Hey all,

I'm on the look out for a decent priced mid-sized laptop (I'm thinking somewhere higher than 10-11" but a bit lower than 15.4") but that seems to be the range that's most expensive.

It's going to be someone's main computer, which is the main reason why I don't want a netbook, but they'll need it to be fairly portable too so a large one is out of the question.

The best I've seen is this Toshiba for €700 but I'm hoping there might be something a bit better out there that's got enough spec to be the main computer (so it's got to have an optical drive and a decent bit of HDD space, basically).

I'm not sure how laptops around the 14" shape up but I know 13.3" ones are ideal in terms of size/functionality... they're also pricey!

Well the dell vostro 1310 laptops might fit the bill, since they're pretty cheap and 13" machines, here's a link to them on the Dell site. Vostro 1310. That toshiba seems very poorly spec'd for the cash, only 120Gb HD, 1Gb RAM...not all that great of a processor. There's also the dell xps 1330 which can be bought quite cheaply on dell outlet.
This samsung on Elara, looks to be a decent price too, not quite 13" but not far off, at 14.1" samsung

That Vostro looks decent for the price - I assume the body of it is just the same as any Vostro, except smaller? My main laptop is actually a Vostro 1000 and I'm quite happy with it (although it's bulky enough and not exactly pretty!).

I saw a 13.3" Fujitsu Siemens Amilio (or whatever it's called) which looked quite good - may have been a small bit over budget though and I wasn't a fan of the trackpad... size was perfect, though.

    I have a Vostro 1310

    2.1ghz C2D processor
    3gig ram
    250gig HDD
    nVidia 8400m GS graphics
    finger print reader
    glossy screen
    webcam

cost me 670 ex vat (business account)

Theres a slight problem with cooling for the gpu search in notebook review but its a savage laptop plays games very well ive played call of duty 4 on highish settings and runs other games very well. My mate has an alien ware laptop and was impressed that my tiny little laptop could play games nearly as well as his.

All in all a very neat laptop. can be had for cheaper if you dont want such a high spec.
