I'm looking to buy a flat screen television, around 42" to 47. (47" if I can get it delivered while the girlfriend's away!) I have a budget of around 1500 to 1800 but I'd pay more if necessary.

Whether it's plasma or LCD is unimportant just as long as the specs are good. I know you're all probably asked about 12 times a day but I did look back over most of the forum first. It just seems that a lot of the televisions that were top of the range have now been replaced with newer models.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. I've checked the internet but the comparison sites might as well be explaining the inherent differences in Middle Kingdom hieroglyphics. Well over my head!

    Anyway thanks for any replies.

    Panny PZ8x range.

pz80 - if ya can get it is by all accounts the best 42" plasma available.

not sure about the 47" range.

Decent tool for helping ya chose a tv - http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/selector.php

Recommend richersounds.com if yer buying. They have a forum on boards here as well -> Biz/Consumer Interaction.

LCD wise the Sony W4000 and Samsung A656 series are at the top.

As for plasma, kaimera mentioned the Panasonic's which are near the top of the pile and within your price range; provided you buy from up north or online from a UK website.
