If the parts dell provided failed, then dell have a case to answer.

Dell did not put the virus on your laptop, your actions helped trigger this. It is not dell's problem that your laptop got infected.

    You mean a virus?
Read the terms of your warranty - it most likely says they don't have to take it back for a software issue, especially one that was caused by your actions (The Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Act does not cover Acts of User)
Restore it to factory settings or install another virus scanner (AVG and Avast! supply free editions with better performance and detection rates than Norton)

No idea who the nca are but they misinformed you. The virus was your fault, not Dell's. It is a generally easy enough problem to rectify. Removal tools are easily found online or as someone else suggested, get a better anti-virus than Norton.

    Oo

Soundman: I think he means the NCA(oI) - National Consumer Agency.
I also find it hard to believe that they told him that because (a) it's utter bollocks, and (b) the idea was only suggest minutes ago in the previously locked ranting thread and I doubt he contacted them before this.

We wouldn't recommend it if it wasn't. It also wouldn't be in the recommended software sticky.

The National Consumer Agency are obviously misinformed on the specifics of your issue. This problem is as a result of your actions. Not dell's, they have no responsibility to fix this under warranty. Before replying, follow the steps in the " "I think I have a virus" thread in the virus and malware removal forum.
If you do not, i will close this thread, and may result in an infraction.

NCA = National Consumers Association ??

Either way your warrenty from Dell is for Hardware replacement and/or support of your Operating System.

A virus is outside of the T&C's even if they did supply the software. Your problem is with Norton and why it let the virus in.

That was exactly my thinking. Thanks for clearing up the abbreviation confusion for me by the way.

Too true and I've had enough of him to be perfectly honest.
