Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't severance pay paid out when someone is fired? I thought Bertie chose to leave.

Does he deserve €68,000 of our money in a time of recession?

What would you buy for Ireland with €68grand if you could, instead of going to that greedy oaf?

Apparently Pat 'I refuse to call him the cope' Gallagher didn't bother applying for severance even though he is entitled. I don't know if he just forgot to apply in time or what but it's nice to see not everyone is greedy.

Why concentrate on Bertie when Liz O'Donnell is walking away with €85,000? And two other former Junior Ministers walking a way with a total of €106,000?

Thought I'd leave them out because technically they lost their jobs in the reshuffle, they didn't choose to leave.

Good on the Cope for not taking the money. Any man mental enough to change his name by deed poll to that would be the one to buck the trend :pac:

It is criminal, but i guess the irish people really get what they deserve, they voted them in yet again!

I'm sure this must not be possibly in the private sector as self employed people could just resign and pay themselves massive severances... I guess they changed the law to allow this for themselves

I think it's about time politicians started refunding us taxpayers for mismanagment and corruption on their behalf. They should have been fired not rewarded and shouldn't get pensions either.

I for one do not welcome the severence pay of our old overlords.
