Hey Guys, I'm interested in your opinion on a decision I'm going to have to make quite soon. I currently work for a large multinational software company - the main market leader in what they do and very well respected. I've been here just over two years and have a successful track record. I work in sales / account management. They are setting up a new team in the business, focusing on a new trend in the industry around "Web 2.0" and upcoming web based technologies. This is a hige interest of mine. There are 2 jobs for Sales Specialists. The Sales Specialists role means you focus only on one product area, and you help the other account managers to sell these products. The reasons I have an interest in this is that I have a a big interest in the area of Web 2.0 myself, but also I like working with other people and this will give me a chance to almost act as a a sales manager for this area, as I have to coach them to sell more of my product, which will help me hit my sales targets. One of the jobs has been filled and I am due to get the other one. Not guaranteed, but very likely. It's taking a long time though. The main drawback is that even though this is a promotion and a more senior role, they will not give me any more money. There is a freeze on internal pay rises :(

Now as well as this, there is another company who are hiring right now. There are very few other companies I would work for, but this one would be my main preference. Plus 2 people iI used to work with in my current role went there and much prefer it. This job is not as specialist, its more of an individual pure sales role. However the product you are selling is a brilliant example of "Web 2.0" Technology, and known as the best in its field too. Probably not as senior a role, but, they are offering about 15k more money than I'm on now... Plus, its a lot closer to where I live, which is always nice...

So, I'm struggling to decide which is a better move for me. Basically I've lost interest in my current role and just biding time until I get this new promotion. I'm hoping this will give me a fresh start and give me a new lease of life in the new role, get me working hard and enjoying it... But then again, its the same company working with the same people. Going to a new company on the other hand, is much more of a fresh start and a new challenge etc.

More money in this new company is very appealing, but career wise it might be a better bet to become a 'specialist' in a new upcoming field.

I'm interested in any thoughts you may have.
    Thanks guys.
