So having had 2 weeks to get documents organized, having had me pestering them all along for my disc, it turns out Brophys haven't even got a policy number for me yet.

Very impressive except that I can't even tax the car. FFS, I've had the thing for over a fortnight, got it registered straight away (another disaster- but that's a different story) and there isn't even a suggestion of a disc to put on it yet. Add in having several electrical gremlins that leave me without reverse lights or my LHS tail light, I think the guards would have a field day with me:mad::mad::mad:

Should I put a duff policy# into motortax.ie and juist get it taxed?? I'm sure it can't be that important and I can't wait any longer

Actually I had quite similar problem because I wanted to register a not insured car but an insurance policy is required. So you can insure your car (I insured through the phone and got policy# straight away) and then revoke insurance when it’s taxed.

I wanted to do the same with my modern car policy but they wouldn't insure anything over 20 years. That was of course Quinn "the accountants have taken over" Direct.

I'm sure the revenue don't care about the insurance, really- at the end of the day, you're trying to give them money....

I have a habit of giving 1234567 as my policy number, even though it is insured.

Certainly if you do it over the counter they don't care if you leave the space blank.

I'm basically just paranoid about messers due to working in the profession I do.

Sure you have only bought the car. and imported it
Why the big worry about tax at this stage?

Depending on where he lives, maybe it's so he can park it on the street without getting fines from the local traffic wardens....

You can only be fined/summonsed for no insurance if you are actually driving the car. But to park the car on a street it needs to be taxed.

Anyway I think in the OP's case it is due to the Insurance company not having a policy number ready for him

i think you are wrong. A car needs to be insured to be on the road ....whether or not it is being driven. What if it was dangerously parked and someone ran into ti?

I'd sue his insurance company, that's what, as well as trying to get a summons out for careless driving/driving with undue attention......... !

'They made me do it' is no defence !!

We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
