    Hi All
I'm planning on taking Mrs. Hamsterboy for a break before Christmas.
We'll be using Galway airport for this so my possible destinations are:
    Amsterdam
    Bordeaux
    Cardiff
    Edinburgh
    Faro
    London (Luton)
    Lorient
    Malaga
    Manchester
    Newcastle

We've never been to any of these places and would like some advice on where would be best for the time of year.
We're into culture, heritage etc. rather than beach/niteclubbing type holidays
    Cheers for any help received

    HB

malaga and faro will be warmer than those other places for sure in winter and that for me is important as its not nice trying to explore a city in the freezing cold and rain :(, malaga i would put ahead of faro given the places in close proximity such as marbella, gibraltar and morocco (a short 1hr ferry ride away)

wouldn't go out of my way to visit manchester or newcastle (both are ok for a day or two and to sample the nightlife but thats really it). edinburgh is a lovely city for a few days as is london but leave them till summer, ditto amsterdam

You don't mention how you feel about winter temperatures, so I presume you don't mind donning the terminal underwear.

Amsterdam is good for museums, canals, and some interesting buildings. As you will be with the missus, the other tourist draw might be off limits (but it's okay for you both to wander into the area and have a look). Never found great food in Amsterdam.

Lorient in winter doesn't hold much appeal for me. It was largely flattened in the war and rebuilt in 1950s concrete.

Bordeaux would be my choice. Interesting built heritage, great museum (Musée d'Aquitaine), fair art gallery, good eating, easy to get around. Oh, and there's wine. Good shopping, too, if that's your thing.

    Hmmmmm!
So far the 2 I was really drawn between have proved to be everybody's choice......Bordeaux and Malaga.
We're not fussy about temperatures, course it would be nice to see how the rest of the world lives (i.e. not in perpetual gloom a la Galway).
It's really looking like one of this two, but which one?????

    Cheers Guys

Malaga Faro and Bordeux are all finishing up at the end of October

edit- Boredeux has actually ended as of the 15th of Sept, Faro has also finished, AGP will run until Oct 22.

Amsterdam will still operate but with an ATR.

You could just fly from Shannon, either

Hi guys, thinking of going to Malaga myself in mid Nov - will it be still warm enough to head to the beach then? Does it get dark early do you know?

i was in salou about mid november last year and the weather was really nice and malaga is alot further south than salou

you can check previous years temperatures here http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/LEMG/2005/11/15/DailyHistory.html?req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA

sunrise and sunset times for november, the sun doesn't go down till after 6pm so about 1.5hrs later Dublin in november http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=323&month=11&year=2008&obj=sun&afl=-11&day=1
