    Hi all,

I am starting a part-time evening course in DCU this week and I was wondering what the parking is like? How much do they charge, is it normally full and is it just like a normal car park in that you just drive in get your ticket and pay on the way out or do you have to get a ticket in advance as your a student?

    Thanks

If you are a student there is a student only parking lot around the back of the Henry Grattan coming from Colins road - drive past the multi story. You use your student card to get in and out of this car park.

If you want the multi-story, generally regarded as more secure since that is where Security is based, the rates are not too bad iirc.

If it is an evening course then the student car park will be grand :)

Thanks for that, I am only starting tommorrow evening so I don't have my student card yet. So I guess it will be the multi-storey! I don't need to purchase ticket in advance? I presume its the same as any other multi storey?? Sorry, just nervous about returning to college :o

Yeah normal multistory - geta ticket on your way in and use a pay machine just before you leave :)

Multi storey is about €1 per hour, which i found very reasonable during my orintation week. Once you get your student card you can avail of free parking beside henry grattan building or come in off ballymun rd and theres another free car park behind invent building.

You can also pop into the car park office and get a ticket which allows you to park 6 times in the multi-storey for €7. Buy it before you enter otherwise it is not valid for that parking session

Thanks for that, a euro an hour isn't too bad for the first day!

Anyone know anythin bout overnight parking? Since im spending a few nights here and there stayin in Larkfield overnight. Do all the car parks close? I've heard bad things about parking in the free car park at night... and not too sure about finding places to park on the ballymun road for the entire night..

Last year my student card wasn't working in the machines that let you into the student carpark, I know loads of people had the same problem and had to get cards replaced so they'd work etc. I was just wondering if anyone was having the same problems this year?

I had, went to estates office and my card was working fine (i knew that cause it was letting me out of car parks and ive also to swipe in for lectures) they said it was the machine. Must have been cause it worked the next day

Cool, thanks for that. If there was widespread problems getting into it again this year I wasn't even going to bother trying it, will give it a go on Monday morning.

When does the free student car park fill up by? I'm gonna start driving soon. I've walked by the multi a storey and the last few times there's beens signs outside it saying its full.
Anybody else found this to be the case?

Yeah tbh you'd be lucky to get a space in the free car park after half 9.Thats nearly pushing it. Depends what day of the week for the multi story to be full. Monday and tuesday i would guess to be the worst.

I'm in at 1 on tuesdays, first week said it was full but went in and found a space, last week, couldn't find a space in there at all, went into the free one and drove around it for 10 minutes till someone left so I could take their space.

I love how at 11am on a rainy tuesday afternoon both free car parks AND the multi story were all full up ... forcing me to park completely out of my way, having to trek down the ballymun road in the rain ...

The free car parks are a joke set up anyway, especially the invent one! they are too small and the spaces are set out in an odd pattern.

People just basically throw up their cars any old way they wishin the free car park 2, one was even parked in the middle of the road today!

Exact same here paddy, parked in albert college rd and got soaked in the process, see that park beside the college, yea make that a car park

What time do the free car parks tend to ease up a bit at? Would it be easier to find a space there after lunch or do they tend to be full for the day?

Yep Albert College estate is a lifesaver! Although, have a horrible gutsy feeling they may implement pay-parking on the streets for non-residents ... Hopefully not though!
