    Hi,

I'm living in an apartment block in Cork with Chorus piped in so that we don't put up antenna. However it’s gone since Friday. Anyone know if Chorus have decided to scramble RTE,TV3,TVG etc or something? It may be an internal issue in the block but just wondering.

    Ta

There is no Chorus "Free to Air".

Do you mean they don't supply free channels?

No, nothing on Chorus is Free, either you pay for the service or you do not have one.

Must be a communal service in the apartment block then.

They're still unscrambled where I am, albeit in terribly bad resolution.

Perhaps you should check your connections and try re-tuning your TV.

UPC (Chorus) don't have to provide those channels to you. It's possible you've been physically disconnected from the cable network at the tap.

You could get basic digital cable in for €20/month and a DVR (record/pause/rewind tv) for €2.50 a month for the first 2 months then €5/month after that.
    That'd give you:
RTE 1, 2, TV3, TG4, Sentanta Ireland, Channel 6, BBC 1, 2, 3, 4, News 24, cBBC, & cbeebies, UTV, Channel 4, More 4, E4, Film Four, Sky One, Sky Two, Sky News, Sky Sports News, Paramount Comedy 1 & 2, UKTV Gold, UKTV Drama, Dave, Sky News, Discovery Channel, Virgin 1, E, Bravo, Nikelodeon, Nick Toons, Nick Jr, MTV One and EWTN and you'll get Channel South (Local TV) and Cork Community Television fairly soon too.

Their Select and Max packs give you way more channels, but the value digital pack isn't too bad.

    You also get radio:
RTE RADIO 1, RTE RADIO 1 Extra, 2FM, LYRIC FM, TODAY FM, R NA G, PHANTOM FM, BBC RADIO ULSTER, BBC RADIO 1, BBC RADIO 2, BBC RADIO 3, BBC RADIO 4, BBC RADIO 5 LIVE, BBC RADIO 6 MUSIC, BBC WORLD SERVICE, GALWAY BAY FM, CLASSIC FM, JAZZ FM, WRN, UCB EUROPE, PLANET ROCK, STARPOINT, CAPITAL GOLD, XFM, KISS 100, KERRANG, SMASH HITS, Radio Caroline, BBC 5 Live Extra, BBC 7, FM104, 98FM, NewsTalk 106, Dublin's Country Mix 106.8, Spin 1038

If you were receiving all 4 channels at VHF yes it was the cable feed.
If you were receiving channels at UHF (at least TV3 and TG4, if not all 4), well you were connected to a communal aerial.

It is of course more correct to say that the 4 Irish channels are available as unscrambled analogue on the cable rather than describe them as 'FTA'.

I wonder will Channel South also be available in analogue along with the 4 Irish national channels, so as to boost advertising sales? - this had always been the case back when Chorus (+ predecessors) had ran a local channel - it was always available unscrambled - so more viewers and more income from advertising.
