Fun date ideas

Anyone got any good ideas for a date? I've never been on a formal date before, but I've got one coming up next week. I'm stumped as to what to do. I'm a student, so something affordable!!! The girl is foreign, so if there is anything unique to do in Dublin, I'd be grateful to hear about it. Not sure if this qualifies as a PI, I know its not a serious problem. But it is an issue for me at least!!

Some people laugh at me for saying this, but I always say the zoo is a great place for a first date. Tis pretty cheap, good fun and you get to talk to each other in a relaxed way instead of sitting beside each other in silence at the cinema or staring at each other awkwardly over a dinner-table.

+1 The Zoo is great fun. How well do you know her? She might be one of those people that diagrees with animals being confined like that!

A friend of mine when on a first date on one of those ghost bus tours and she said it was great fun for a first date.

What do you know about her?

What do you know about her?

Vegetarian, not a huge fan of alcohol but takes a few drinks, likes to dance, likes the cinema (I wouldn't be keen on it for a date though).

Don't know her very well so I'm struggling to think of anything else at the minute.

    Generally vegetarians hate the zoo!
Has she seen much of Dublin? The Coastal Tour looks good (if the weather is good).

If not the zoo, maybe the botanic gardens, or the suburban farm up in Dundrum (very close to the shopping centre).

Take a spin out the M50 at 17:00 on a tuesday.

She will have no choice but to sit there and get to know you. When you get back to hers at about half ten that night and if she leggers it off then you know she isnt the one with you...

I'm single by the way..... Does it show ? :D

The Zoo is a good idea (if she's ok with zoo atmosphere) or bring her out to Dun Laoghaire/Bray/Malahide depending which side of the city you live, ye could do dinner & a walk maybe.
I recall a first date being dinner, then cinema, then a drive, then a long walk along the coast, twas really nice. Doesn't have to be fab, simpler the better and once ye get time to yourselves to yap etc

Good chance she'll not be keen on the zoo. And I wouldn't blame her. The place should be closed down. But that's for another thread.

How bout go for a drive to somewhere away from Dublin? Or even better, get the ferry over to Holyhead for day trip.

Ghost bus tour. Or that Viking Splash Tour. Or the tour of Dublin Bay by boat (can't remember name).

Ice skating is immense fun for all. Zoo is a fantastic idea too. Basically anywhere you can chat, laugh and not get boozed up is recommended big time. Nothing wrong with beer but without it you get a clearer view of things from personal experience.

May not agree with animals in captivity.

Are you limited to staying in the city?

Dinner - she doesn't drink much so it won't cost an arm and a leg. It doesn't have to be expensive. If you don't get a steak the size of a toilet seat or lobster, it won't be over priced. Go into town and have a look for a nice reasonable restaurant.

You an get to know her and it's also a set length if you know what i mean. Drinks can seem like it will never end. With dinner, if it's going well there's no rush, you can go for a drink afterword or ye can leave pretty sharpish if it's terrible.

If you are looking for an idea for a daytime date......

Take a DART out to Greystones.

Have something to eat in The Happy Pear vegetarian restaurant (how thoughtful of you).

Walk the cliff walk to Bray 80 mins.

Go to the Star amusements to play the slots and shuffles and try and win her a cuddley toy with the grabber thing......

Walk with the cuddley toy the length of the prom and have a quiet pint in the snug of the harbour bar. Or if you don't get that far, by the fire in the porterhouse.

    DART back into town.

    I need a gf.

don't really want to hog this persons thread but quit like the sound of a ghost tour, does anyone know of one in Cork? My husband and me are having a date day and night on Sat as rarely get to spend time together due to conflicting work schedules and would love to do something other than the usual dinner and drinks thing!

I went on my 1st date with my current GF on ghost bus tour in Dublin. We both had a great time and would really recommend it as something fun and different. She still raves on about it over 2years later when people ask about our first date

No it's vegetarian = pro animal = zoo is no existence for an animal..

..though some vegetarians are not vegetarian because of animal rights. Just for health reasons and/or not liking meat.

Get the dart to Dalkey, Go to Colliemore or Dalkey harbour and hire a boat to cross to Dalkey island, it's fairly cheap: you'll probably have the whole island to yourself. Bring a picnic.

Wow, thanks a mill for all of the ideas. Dates not till next weekend so keep 'em comin!!:p

Can I just say I *hate* the viking splash tour? I live beside their route, and they come in every saturday morning with their 'Whoaaa!' noises and wake me up. Gah!

Anyway, she likes to dance. Do you? There's a place called Floridita in the Irish Life mall that basically does latin dancing (Samba, salsa...somehthing like that) every Friday. Good place to start off with dinner and stay for the dancing.

However if you can't dance (like me) then maybe find a dancing class somewhere and take her for a lesson. It's an alternative!

does anyone know if the Dublin bay sea thrill is still operating.

It used to go out of Dun Laoghaire.

I can't get them on the phone or on email.

    Thanks
