Dell monitor *always* Auto adjusting

I picked up a second hand Dell E173FPb on adverts a while ago, but it's infuriatingly always "auto adjusting" and I can't find any menu open (when I can get to the menu) to switch it off. I tried installing the monitor profile on the PC to no avail. I tried it on a couple of laptops with the same result.

Do anyone have any ideas/pointers as to the problem or is it borked and only fit for the bin?

Have you replaced the cable? Does it display an image while its auto adjusting?

Yup, the image is displayed no problem, and I tried a couple of different PC's/cables and laptops but still the same. Do you know if theres a way to turn it off (I don't think so tho...)

The same PCs are fine with the same cables but different monitors...

Have you tried doing a "Factory Reset" from the monitor menu?

Isn't the auto adjust a button that you press instead of something that happens automatically? If so that may be stuck.

Not necessarily. There are a few Dell monitors hooked up to equipment in work and after we have changed display settings to clone the image to another display and then unplug the 2nd monitor, it will auto adjust afterwards. Some of them auto adjust every time they are turned on.

Just a thought. In your monitor menu, is there a sub menu for On-Screen Display? If so go into this and see if there is a feature called OSD Lock. If there is turn it to ON and see if that helps.

If it has a dvi input, using that should avoid it auto adjusting.

Thanks for the info guys, I can't even get into the monitor menu (disabled while auto-adjusting maybe?), so I don't even know if there is an option called OSD lock or factory reset...

Theres only a DSub input so I'm pretty much stuck with that....

Actually, a quick scan of the info on the Dell site, tells me that the '+' button is also the Auto Adjust (which, in fairness, may be stuck), and that it can be turned off:

NOTE: Auto Adjust will not occur if you press the button while there are no active video input signals, or attached cables.

I'll give it a shot when I get home and see what happens

If you can get the bezel to pop out, you might have some luck in un sticking the button. Otherwise, it could be a fault with the firmware on it.

However, it still might be worth giving Dell a ring with the problem and see what they say, I had an Idek Iiyama monitor that went bad when using D-Sub, gave them a ring and it turned out there was an endemic fault with them, and they had them replaced within a few days.

Nope, no joy. The "Auto Adjust" button isn't stuck, the only way I can get it to stop is to press & hold the menu button, but the AA starts again as soon as I release.

Can't find a number for hardware support on the Dell site, any online/email queries need a service tag, which I don't have..

Looks like its for the bin, unless I can figure out a way to jam in the menu button - blue tack maybe?
