Was about to watch this recently until just last night I saw a trailer for it on TV with a release date of Oct 10th - now very excited, did not realize it was hitting cinemas here!

Interesting. Havent heard anything about this film until now.

I wouldnt generally be the biggest sci fi fan but this looks like it may be one of the exceptions. Plus its got thomas jane and ron perlman in it. I like most of their other work.

Ill probably be waiting ages for a cinema release here so ill have to look into getting it in other ways.

Looks decent. Surely Jane+Perlman = win.

Although i am sick of that musing showing up in so many action movie trailers.

Having already seen The Mutant Chronicles I have to admit I wasnt overly impressed. The style of the film was probably where it was most successful, with some extremely iconic and effective images as well as some well designed and implemented CG, especially for a film with such a low budget.

It is the story and characters that majorly let the piece down. The plot is by the numbers post apocalyptic sci-fi (I must admit to not being in anyway familiar with the source material) and the casting generally uninspired. Sean Pertwee is brilliant as always in a supporting role but the rest are a mixed bag. Jane usually has a good screen presence but doesnt make much of an impression here, while Perlman garbles a semi-Irish accent and tries to make everything he says seem incredibly deep. He partly pulls it off to be fair.

The action is generally well presented and agreeably violent, while the main foes are menacing enough but really nothing more than redressed zombies. The whole thing sometimes feels regrettably cheap, with certain scenes resorting to no-budget horror cliches in the way the action is presented. The direction is generally reasonable but it often feels as though Hunter is stretching his abilities a little too far.

All things considered, The Mutant Chronicles could have been a total mess and isnt by any means. The finished product is certainly of a much higher quality than the strange proof of concept vid which turned up on the net last year:

But for me the film is still just average.

Maybe you'll have more fun with it though, just thought I'd give my opinion.

And music from The Crow, Armageddon and Gothic Monsters maketh a pretty cool trailer IMO.

Saw this a few months back, wasn't up to much. Some great effects, but a very boring movie.

I kinda liked it.Certainly not mind blowing or a redefiner of movies, but when you consider that it was funded by the Isle of Man and made on a really small budget, I think you can make some exceptions about it.I thought considering the budget it was very well madeand as well it's apparently the 1st of a triology.Hopefully the next ones(if they get made) will be better.
Its definately worth a watch for sci fi fans, but not really worth the cost of a cinema trip or even buying it on dvd, but certainly worth renting on a rainy night.
