    1. Sci Fi Soc - Great events, well run, and have the best room to relax in, watching films or playing games.

    2. DUPSA - Pharmacy soc, not just for pharmacy students, had great receptions and the Mystery tour was the best one I went on last year.

    3. Rifle Club - Another really well run soc, and the rifle shooting tournaments are a blast.

    My two cents :)

    There are no dud socs.

The point is YOU get involved and YOU do things. This increases activity and makes it better.

There are societies that have been awful and have turned around and there are societies that could be amazing but aren't.

Join whatever you want to join and then get involved in running it.

I remember when comedy society started up, and look at it now! Brings tears to mine eyes.

See above. The man is right. Practically every society will give you as much out as you are willing to put in. This will simply depend on how interested you are in what it does.

There is usually very little need to do this. I'd say most activity is already covered by the societies that exist already. If you wanted to set one up, you'd need 50-100 people to sign a petition supporting it, and you'd need to show you can do interesting and useful activities over the long term.

My three best societies represent what I'm inetrested in, and those to which I have given time in the last few years, so what I think is amazing may infact be a load of utter ****.

Try lots, choose after a while, what you love some of your friends will hate.

No. For the simple reason that the Central Societies Committee only have X amount to divide between n societies. You'd have to put forward a very strong case that there is real need for your society.

On topic: Societies you should probably join are the Hist and the Phil. Even if you don't get involved in debating yourself, all the big names that come to college are usually invited by these two. Also, if there is a club out there that is related to your course I recommend you join it. Its a great way of meeting people in your class and you might get some notes and other forms of help off the older heads. Unless you're in BESS. There is never a reason to join DUBES.

They gave away free crepes when I was in third year.

Yes, but they're irevocably tainted by the gay.

    1. Rifle Club - Open Mon-Friday, 6pm-10pm during term time, only €4, and target shooting is a great sport. I might be a bit biased since I'm involved in the committee, but yeah - come say hi, I'll be on the stand all week.
    2. DUCSS - computer science society. Got some cool events planned, and an awesome room. Also involved, thus also biased!
    3. Clibing Club - No involvement here, but really enjoyed using the climbing wall. Easiest way is to go along with the climbing club, since you get to use their gear.
