Have always hit my low irons (3-4) and fairway woods too inconsistenly and after trying out a few hybrids I am thinking maybe a hybrid would be more forgiving.

Essentially looking for something that will be a replacement for 3 iron, 4 iron, fairway wood

Anyone have any recommendations for loft, brand and shaft that I should consider looking at? and if so can you give one or two reasons why you feel it is a good option based on your experience :)

Recent reviews in Today's Golfer put the Taylormade CG7 hybrid top of the list. The loft and shaft are really down to what you want out of the club. if you're keeping your 4 iron in the bag you should go for the 3i lofts (around 19-21). Other highly rated hybrids are the Ping G10s.

Get the oldest TM hybrid you can find. The old ones, especailly the ones where theres a 'TP-wieght adjustable' option are AMAZING. So easy to hit.

Recently opted for the new Taylor Made Burner Rescue 19 degree (or 18 - forget at the moment as it's Monday!!) and it is fantastic. Shaft options are standard, I had most success with the regular option and purchased that one.

No complaints so far as it feels very solid and it has a beautiful low penetrating trajectory which can be worked quite well also. Lovely small head but still makes you feel confident at address. Picked it up in McGuirks Blanch for about €180 I think - again not sure.

Absolutely love hitting it but hate leaving the low irons in the bag, they are too clean, it's like I'm cheating on them... :(

also recently acquired a Taylor Made Burner Rescue 19 degree, and it really is fantastic...went for the regular shaft options....so easy to get the ball airborne from moderate lies in the rough....

got it on ebay in mint condition for about 70 euro, including postage....

pick a loft, depending on what club or clubs you want to replace.....

Before this becomes a TM white-wash, I'd like to recommend the Cleveland Hi-Bore. If you can get used to the frankly weird profile, it's a great club from tee-box, rough, fairway, and even for low shots under trees. Can smack my 2i hi-bore almost as far as my driver.

    I use the G10.

    It's grand.

It doesn't change the world or make me coffee in the morning but it hits the ball okay.

I use Nickent 3dx hybrids (20 and 24 deg) with Aldila NV-75S hybrid shafts. They hit the ball long, high and straight for me, so do the job. The newer Nickent 4dx models come with UST V2 shafts which are supposed to be very good also.
Any TM hybrids I've tried were hook machines for me. Might suit lots of people, didn't suit me.
For what it's worth, I'm a big fan of Adams clubs generally, and their hybrids are the most played on the Nationwide tour in the states, where the sponsorship cash tends not to influence what model players use. You'll get one with a great shaft (better than any stock reg/stiff) for probably €100 delivered from ebay

    I use the G10.

Sheet, where did you pick that up? Mc Guirks don't seem to stock the G10 Hybrid, at least it's not available on the Website.

I'd like to pick up a higher lofted Hybrid myself, to complete the G10 set. I have the G10 driver and Irons already so might as well get all cooridnated!.

I have a Spalding, 21 degree which I'm keeping and I like - but it's closer to a fairway wood in distance and 'hit-ability' from **** lies. I'd like one that I can hit with a bit of elevation from the rough, something akin to an old fashioned 5 or 7 wood.

I also use a lot of G10s - not Irons but Driver, 3 Wood and Hybrid. For me, they work especially well with the Grafalloy shaft which gives a nice, boring flight.

I got my Hybrid custom ordered in McGuirks in Leppardstown. They had a few there in the shop but that was about 4 or 5 months ago.

Mine is to act as a 2 iron. My irons are 1/2 an inch longer and I want to ensure I wasn't doubling up on the 3 iron yardage so my G10 is 18 degree and 1/4 inch longer. Pretty much plays perfectly between my 3 wood and 3 iron yardages.

Although mine is a stronger type club than you're looking for, I would imagine the weaker lofts in the G10 are what the club was prodominantly designed for. Just judging by the shape/size of the head. If it's elevation you're looking for I'd recommend the yellow V2 shaft that comes in them.

As a side note, I've never had so many people comment on a club i have as much as the G10 3 wood I carry. A few playing partners have just randomly commented lately that the look of it is very nice - very simple. It's a class club I must say.
