I'm a postgraduate student in UCC. My campus accommodation allows me to use my MacBook in the halls of residence, provided the laptop is presented at the IT Centre for inspection first. I checked their website, and they say that all laptops must be fully updated with anti-virus software before being given access to the network. Just wanted to check are there any anti-virus packages for Mac out there? Pardon my ignorance if there are :p

Do they not offer an antivirus package free to students? That's bad if they don't. UCD offer Sophos, and require it for access to their wired network. Never bothered with it myself, but at least it's offered, you could mention this to them...

Downloaded ClamXAV there. Relatively painless to use and found no viruses (God bless the security of the Mac).

ClamX will scan for many Windows viruses your Mac as well so it can protect files that you may need to forward on to others :)

OP while your macbook is relatively safe, without protection it doesnt not prevent it passing on a virus etc to a windows based machine even though the virus wont affect you.

of course if every other computer in the college has an anti-virus then strictly speaking you still dont need one! ;)
