    Seems to me that pre 1995 we had a triangular society in ireland.
    50% on low wages, 35% on middle income and 15% rich.
    During the tiger years it changed to a Diamond.
    20% on low wages, 55% on middle income and 25% rich.
    Now that recession has hit, the 25% rich stay put, pushing the rest down, back to a triangle, but this time it has a much longer base line.

    45% on low wages, 30% middle income and the 25% rich.

    This is what boom and busts have created throughout europe since the war.

    The rich get richer and there are more of them and the rest move between the 2 other brackets.

    25% rich? That seems very high were did you get your figures from. I would expect 5 - 10% to be classed as rich i.e. earning over 100k a year.
