A friend of mine just came back from the states and is offering me a brand new strat for 695. That seems to be a good price for one to me but just thought I'd ask in here before goin for it. It has an ash body aswell, I was told it makes it brighter and sustains a bit more since its heavier, is that true or is it way off?

Ash bodied strats usually have a brighter sound. Some prefer them some dont.
AFAIK "standard Strat" is made in Mexico (MIM), "American Standard" is made guess where (MIA). It's written on the headstock where its made.

You can get a mexican one for 444 from the below link or an American one for 1055.

Yeah, seems like a good deal. Just seems like an odd figure, 695...

Is she a Highway One USA Strat? If so, they are much cheaper than the Standard USA Strats.

Otherwise it is a good deal if it's in new condition, bearing in mind you could pick up a second hand one for €650 or less.

Dont think the highway ones come with ash bodies....not 100% on that one though

On further mature reflection it seems you can get them for 885 yoyos from GAK.co.uk depending on the exact exchange rate. Is the one you're getting in Sienna Sunburst with ash body? That seems to be STG 70 extra.
So if it is one of those and it's in genuinely new condidtion, has no problems and is the exact kind of strat you really always wanted then its a fair price.
Ask yourself why is the buddy getting rid of it since he just bought it?

Indeed, why would he lug it all the way back from the states and then just sell it?

You can pick up a us standard for 648 from fleabay brand new and 100 dollars postage so it seems like a fair price tbh.
